Anyone have any experience with the Tarantella fig that is on Joe Morles website figtreesnet? Did some seaching on the forum but didn't find much info on how it tastes

Hi Pete, my experience with this type of fig is that it is breba only, the main crop keeps falling off. The taste is ok, nothing spectacular, maybe it will get better with time, this is the third year or fourth, take care, Sergio in south Jersey.

I have it in its 3rd year in a .pot. I was growing it as a tree but I whacked it down to form a bush.  

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. This forum has been such a big help in deciding what figs to purchase. I'm really looking forward to the White Triana & La Goccia D'Oro that I bought from Joe Morle, I've heard good things about them.

I also have the White Triana. No fruit yet because I kept on chopping away at it to give cuttings to friends.
I don't think I will be doing any cutting on it and most other ones I have for the year and maybe next. Time to let them grow and produce.

 Hopefully this will be the year you get to try a ton of new figs! Make sure you take pictures and let us know how they taste.

It's a constant battle with me and my pet squirrels.
So what ever is available is my favorite.

I had sampled a Dauphine and it was great! Peters Honey is one of my faves.
Melanzana MM is another good fig.

I have Karachi Green ( Pakistan ) that's producing for the first time ever and was told this is another great tasting fig, we'll see.

I have a few more that are producing for the first time.
I think this is going to be a great season for me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and my squirrels

I have a large one....just repotted it today, no figs yets. The sweetiest fig i ever tasted came from my White Triana last year. It has one super sweet sugar taste.

Dennis, is your White Triana in a pot or planted in the ground?

Rafed, interesting to hear you say that about Peter's Honey. It seems either people like it a lot or not at all.

You have to let the P/H stay on the tree and let it really ripen. Till the point it starts oozing its' sap from the eye.

I've had some get to be the size of a tennis ball. They really live up to their name "Honey".

Maybe it has to do with my climate? I'm in Michigan, maybe the conditions are ideal for it here?

 Its the same with my Lattarulla (Italian Honey) you have to really leave it on to get the intense honey flavor.

Mine is in a pot. I think I have 2. If I have 2, I will plant one in the ground this fall.

Rafed, I do have one Peter's Honey growing in the ground. But mine is about to be culled this year. I may over fertlizer it this year and see what happens. I could have a bad strain.

Rafed, the Peter's Honey airlayer you gave me a couple of years ago has figs on it this year. I hope I get to taste them and if I like it, I will put it in the ground. If all goes well I will get to taste many varieties for the first time and I own a lot of it to you and other members here. Thanks all.

Had a small breba the other day about the size of a quarter. It was Amazing. Berry sweet but not juicy.

I was waiting on a second but my wife found it half-eaten sitting in the driveway yesterday. She threw it away but thought about eating it anyway. She said it was almost blood red inside and dripping with juice.

I really hope this is not a Breba only like some have suggested. I have about 15 to 20 main growing but they all dropped last year.

Oh well!

I had two brebas on a two year old plant that were wonderful this year and the main crop held very well during the deluge. It's a keeper here.

I'm just bumping this up to see if anyone has any more updates on this fig. So far my experience had been like most in this topic. My main crop figs are staying small, turning purplish and then dropping. Has anyone had main crop figs from this variety in the northeast or a place without fig wasps?

Rafed, Rafed, Rafed....man you were absolutely correct about Peter's Honey!   Man ole Man Ole Man what an awesome fig!  I trusted what you said about your PH.  As you know, I have one in the ground.  It did not produce that well at all last year.   Last year, I went to one of my local nurseries and bought 2 more!  At that time, I was mad at my in ground tree and wasn't sure what its problem was.  So, I ended up with 4 PH in huge pots and one in the ground.  About 2 weeks ago, my 2 container trees got ripe.  The figs were large, round and had a drop of honey in it eye.  When I bit into that fig, man ole man ole man was it rich!  The skin was a little thick but not tough.  Then the next day, my Kadota and Excel started to ripen.  But I keep coming back to my container PH.  Then this week, my in ground PH tree started ripening and the figs taste, look and feel exactly like my container tree.   I am so happy!

So, what I learned is this cultivar take more time to start putting out large super tasting honey filled figs!  The same is true with La Goccia D'Oro.  Last year, most of my figs dropped and those that did ripen were small and had no taste.  NOT this year!  This year my tree is loaded and racoons are cleaning me out!  After trapping and removing the coons, I have only gotten one fig but the second crop is starting to ripen.  The figs are excellent and large!  I can see why the critters love them.

As for Tarantella, I have to go back and check my trees.  Looks like these figs take years to start putting out the best figs.
