Tashkent Fig

Has anyone on the forum ever eaten one of these figs? I would love to see some pictures or read a description as I wait for my first Tashkent breba.

So far, slow growing and has not fruited.

It was a slow grower with tons of FMV.  But a shoot off the base grew quickly and had little to no signs of FMV last year. I cut the main away and left the new growth.

Started growing this year well.

As someone who has read "Mission to Tashkent" a few times and is a "Back of Beyond" buff in general I would love to grow one of these. Can anyone reccomend a reliable source?

I have had good results with their other figs along with Tashkent.

Raintree Nursery

Thanks, Dominick, but I don't see Tashkent listed on the Raintree site. Does it go by another name, or (more likely) am I looking right at it and still missing it?

No. Maybe it's not available now. I bought it in the Fall of 2010 around Thanksgiving for Spring 2011.

I would suggest getting another green fig only because I have had so much trouble growing this one.

Others have had it and said they have gotten nothing from it.

Thanks again. I'm up for a challenge. I'll keep my eyes peeled come fall. Honestly I get more figs than I can eat from my mother-in-law's tree and I have a couple of my own that are starting to bear heavily. At this point I'm just looking to get a little variety.

Thank you for the link. I hope my figs are as delicious as those in the link looked to be.
