Actually, escaping the inferno of AZ. The only bad part is that I missing some ripe figs. I also wonder if the figs are surviving with my questionable drip system setup. Hope I don't come back to a sink hole either or a swarm of ants. Well can't worry about it now.
Here in Oahu, I found some not so common fruits.
The "honey cream pineapple" is only grown here and it is very delicious. Really did taste creamy. Well worth eating if you are here. It's dark green on outside and white/creamy on inside and guaranteed to be the sweetest pineapple. It was more than sweet. It had great taste.
Mountain apple brought over from neighbors. Trying to get more, but can't find in the stores. Extremely delicious. Sweet and tasty, a hint of rose, but not overpowering. I saved some seeds to see if I can grow. Does anyone know if this is closely related to "wax jambu?" I've had that before, but taste is completely different and texture is a bit less crunchy than wax jambu, and more pear like. I'm growing "black pearl" wax jambu, but it will be years before I get any fruit.
Kaimana Lychee - tastes great and no cloying aftertaste.
Still waiting for mamey sapote to ripen. Can't wait because I never tried one before.
If you're ever in Hawaii, try out the great local fruit.
Also, here is one of the most beautiful and striking trees, the Double Chaconia. Anyone growing this rare tree and can it grow in a subtropical environment? I'd love to grow this.
Lastly, found someone growing some figs that are quite big for such a small tree. They look great with very tight eye and doing well with daily on/off rain. Don't know the variety though.
