I had forgotten some twigs in the refridgerator and finally put them in potting mix a couple weeks ago. They're alive! (knock on wood.)

So what are the chances they'll grow to a decent size and be able to survive the winter in a unheated garage in NYC/zone 7 in one gallon grow bags? Otherwise I'm thinking I need to grow these through the winter indoors underlights? Or at least let them come indoors? What say you?
I don't like the idea of bringing outdoor plants indoors/especially small plants that are trying to root so I need to make a decision sooner or later as to where to grow these guys.

If you can you can buy a mini greenhouse from harbor freight. I think its 40 dollers. Its small. 6 foot high 4 foot wide 2 foot deep. Keep in garage zipped up. On a very cold night put very small cheap heater on button. Works good.

I don't really have a way of keeping a heater out there and what temp would I be aiming for? Sounds like its best I grow them indoors then.

Above freezing. The green house will still help a good bit. Its a portable green house made for small indoor areas.

It depends on the quality and size of your cuttings.
If you have hardened wood on the cutting and you haste them to root now they can do it.
I'm in Zone7, and last year I rooted some in end of July. I put 3 in the ground at the end of October.
2 are now growing, and one is still sleeping so could be a lost cause . I pulled that last one out last Sunday and the roots and stem seemed to be alive, just no new green growth.
So I put it in a pot in the greenhouse to see if sleeping princess wants to awaken before a hundred years...
If your cuttings are too weak, you may want to grow them inside during the winter - unless as I did for the ones I kept inside, you'll want to kill them by over-watering and burning from the heating system...

So yes, go ahead ! But don't wait too long to start them.

They also have mini green houses like richard was talking about at Lowes  about the same price.  I put it on my lanai and put a reptile type heat light with a clip on the bottom shelf   zipped it up and snug and cozy figs cuttings all winter    for extra warmth you can always put a quilt over it so if it is really really cold    or one of those aluminum blanket survival things over it     keeps heat in like body warmth.

Jdsfrance, I'm really torn - I grow everything in pots and since I've managed to kill my precious VdeB twig by overwatering them I'm also paranoid about that now. Sigh. I've started them, and they have little buds showing but I'm wondering if I should bring them inside before more outdoors bugs etc settle in on them... that's why I'm trying to plan ahead.

Adorefigs, what's the temp they should be at ideally so the don't die? There is no electricity in the garage so I would have to run an extension cord and not sure about doing that really...

that I don't know since I live outside of Tampa Florida and it doesnt get killer cold down here.   The reptile light is only one temperature but when we had a couple days of freeze  around 30 degrees  the mini green houses were toasty.  I just put a couple of those cheap flannel lap blankets over the top  for extra added measure  you can pick them up for about 3.00 on sale at drug stores  big lots  etc.   Joyce  mine are plugged into outlet on lanai   I use one of those extension cords with multiple outlets on the end.    Good luck Joyce    smart to plan now for the winter.
