This is how EL describes Tena: "Medium sized yellow fig has delicious tender amber flesh. Good for warm climates. Midseason ripening". Can anybody confirm this to be true? How does it behave in humid weather, does it split? Being mid season, does it mean it has no breba crop? Thanks
According to the Baud Catalog, this variety is very sweet and good for drying too. Although it prefers warm, dry climates, it will adapt anywhere where winter temperatures do not drop normally below 5F. Two crops with the Autumn fig slightly smaller than the mid season one.According to UCD "this variety is very sweet, slightly rich and heavy bearing under poor conditions or in pots".
I started a Tena from a UCD scion and hope it survives because I was out of town when the package arrived. After 10-weeks, it now has 3-tiny buds breaking out.Tena does well in a pot I am told and that is where it will remain as I am in the cool Western WA.
I started Tena from cuttings last year. Have 2, vigorous growers, nice lookings, had breba, now have a few main crop figs. Later in the season, if they survive, will show the fruit/ripe flowers.
Sal, send "Fatnsassytexan" (a member here) an email. His name is Tim. He's a very nice guy! He has a large Tena tree planted in the ground. He has posted pics here in the past. I too have one large tree. The figs are great tasting. But Tim can give you a better response that most of us. Good luck!
