Tena & MBVS

Picked these this morning. Of the white figs I have tasted, I have to say that Tena is the best. It's sweet like honey and rich too. All around great flavor. Tight eye, doesn't split or sour for me.

The MBVS, probably should have gone a couple days longer. Was good but lacked a full flavor. I think I just picked too early. The first one I ate the other day was great, but was dead ripe.

I can see your Marseilles vs are not fully ripe.
It will not sour easy so let them get ripe, for best flavor.
And your plant is young and not capable to produce total flavor.

Thanks Herman, I know I picked them too early. Can't wait 'til next year.

Tim, is your Tena in-ground? How old is it, and how many years did it take to start producing good fruit?

Hi Ken, I received it spring 2009 from Rolling River. It is in ground. It is now 7-8' tall and wide, but a little spindly. I'm going to prune it back hard this winter. I prefer my trees as bushes and want to be able to cover it with netting. I got delicious fruit this season, although the skin is starting to get a little tough now in the heat, but it pulls right off.  I got few off of it last season late which were sweet, but definitely better now. I would think, it'll just get better with maturity as with most figs.

That's encouraging--with a little luck, maybe one of my two cuttings will acclimate to the desert and end up being a winner as well.
