Ecuador Figs:

BT ?

Also from Ecaudor:

Roasted fig sandwich. It looks incredible!

Oh yeah BT/ Looks even like a Giant Black German ( BT Knock off)

You know, with all the bad press that the poor "Brown Turkey" has to endure, those sure looked like a decent figs to me.  I could go for 4-5 of those figs right now.

Question:
Are the figs on that tree what can be expected from "Brown Turkey"?  They were quite large.  Was that a breba, or main-crop fig?

Frank

The video makes me want to grow a "BT" !

Frank,

Having a BT fig is better than not having any.
No hating here.

Is this the year of the brown turkey?

Rafed, without hate, I'd choose nothing over a BT.

Oh Jon

Still, my question stands:

Are these the size  figs that "BT" will produce?  Or, are they this  large because Ecuador has magic dirt?  Could they be the Brazilian fig that Bass has on his "Trees of Joy" web-site?  What do you think Bass?  Herman?

Frank

Jon,
You are a undercover BT lover and you want them all to yourself!
Nobody could dislike something so much without meaning the opposite!

You are just like Martin, undercover white fig lover!

And Jason, another undercover BT lover!

To all three of you,

Denial is not a river running through Egypt! .

Says the guy who left his underwear on Martin's fence!

LOL

LOL Rafed I happen to agree with you, wholeheartedly

Rafed, didn't I send you cuttings of my BT?  Surely you've tasted by now?!

Jason,

They flip flopped on me.
I wouldn't mind getting some more in the Fall though.

Thanks

Somebody....anybody...please answer my questions.  Postings  #3 and #8.

Frank, There are some varieties of Brown Turkey that grow very big, they may go by other names. One that is sold on ebay called Bulls Balls and I think another is Patricks Giant. Jason has a Monrovia BT that gets big. A "standard" BT produces good sized fruit as well, but probably a little smaller than the pic above.

FMD
i watch video several times where he says its just 7 months old and i do not believe that.
Plant has breba and main crop on it plus limb thickness tells a much different age as well.

The interior of the fig does look like a brown turkey strain to my eyes.

Martin- He also said "from seed". I would have rather seen an interview with the farmer.

Doesn't humidity increase the size of figs?

Thasnks guys/gals for the answers to my B-T questions.

I still wonder if this is the Brazilian fig on Bass' web-site?

Frank

Frank, your Black Spanish, Black Jack and Tx Blue Giant produce figs that size.  At least mine do.  The brebra on my Black Jack and Black Spanish taste amazing but the main crop taste very bland.  They have that same hollow center like the smaller brown turkey figs.

Also, English Brown turkey are that size too!  THey are sweeter, and juicier!.

Hey Dennis...

Thanks.  This might be the first year that I will get to sample figs from my "Texas Blue Giant"...but I wouldn't bet on it.  From what I have learned, there's a good chance that this is not a good variety for my short-season.  We'll see.

Frank

PS...Is my "Texas Blue Giant" really just a "Brown Turkey" that knows somebody?

Another Ecuador fig video plus other fruits.

Vilcabamba Ecuador has been likened to the garden of Eden. This valley has year round spring weather, incredibly fertile soil, pristine air, pristine water and one of the world's longest life expectancy rates.

The video: What a cutie! To bad the fig has a hollow center and appears to be another BT.

Next week, we are off on a two week tour of Ecuador. Has anyone had the pleasure of visiting?

Have a great time!  Don't buy any Roxo de Valinhos.  They're just Brown Turkey.

Bob your right Roxo de valinhos = San piero = California brown turkey

Hi Frank
I got a Texas blue giant plant last spring from a generous member( Thank you Cathy).  By the end of the season it was loaded with figs; but, only a couple ripened.  I am in Zone 4 so you should get some to ripen. I thought they were pretty good.
