Texas Everbearing HD.

Good evening Ladies and Gents .
This morning and while at work ,I had to run to The local Home Depot for some much needed ,work related material . Upon arrival and while " accidentally " passing by the fruit tree section I stumbled upon this little fig dude! My oh my , is that a Brunswick ? I thought as I made an "Accidental "turn towards the thing! No, not quite I thought once again ,as I got much closer. The lobes looked kind of longish just like my Brunswick but the middle lobe was way longer than the rest, on most leaves and a slight mutation was also visible on most leaves almost like a sixth finger. It is labeled as "fig" . Oh that's freegin great! I said out loud this time and immediately apologized to the old lady next to me. Well, that was all I needed . I'm a sucker for any unknown fig that looks remotely different,or not, than a Celeste and I immediately sensed an urgency to grab a cart and..... But I fought and fought and said NO. I will not buy another...
Turned the other way and walked towards the insulation isle where I picked up my material and drove away.
With my newly acquired fig in the back seat of the Ram!!! How in the.... And what was I thinking? Well after work I got home strangely, way quicker than I usually do and sneaked ( Yeah sneaked and I also paid in cash for the darn thing so there. What momma don't know won't hurt) to the back yard with my new bud. Under the long sticky tag that says fruit ,I found the little white tag that said "Texas Everbearing fig" . Better late than ever! If any of you ,my friends ,recognizes the leaf patern as that cultivar or not please weigh inn with your opinion! The price was $24,98 but marked down to 50% off so not at all a bad deal imo. Thanks for reading and have a great evening!

I wonder where do these big retail stores get their figs from? What are they so miss labeled?

Good for you.....could be the next great fig.......

Jarrett I do have the name of the nursery. It's somewhere in TN . I have bought three other fig trees from HD that came from them and we're miss labeled . All very healthy plants and very cheap for their size. My only explanation is that they sell all the " lost tags " and mixed up ones to the big box stores because they don't think that people care enough to complaint! The HD staff is also clueless on variety info and such. Try asking them if they have a Panachee! I will post a pic of the tag in a bit!
Thanks John. It very well might be! The trunk at the base of the plant is very thick ,looks at least three years old but died back this last winter and all is new wood so I'm hoping to get a couple of figs this year!

Here it is J.

This looks like the same trees sold in East Texas as Texas Everbearing (TEB).  It is not the same as a Brown Turkey and it is not the same as a Brunswick though it may be closer to a Brunswick.  I have often wondered how people could say that A Brown Turkey and the TEB were the same.  The ones sold around here come from a lot of different sources with a lot of them coming from multiple nurseries in Florida.  I agree with Chris about the leaf being different from the Brunswick.

I don't really know enough about it say what the TEB may or may not actually be.

Great input. Thanks very much Danny. I have them side by side with my one year old Brunswick and although they look a bit similar it is very clear to me that they are not the same.. The EBT that came from your tree ( many thanks once again) is clearly and totally different than the TEB. No confusion there! I hope it turns out to be the real thing. It is a very healthy little tree and I'm glad I "broke down" and bought it! According to Dennis it is a keeper!

Hey all. A small update on my new Texas Everbearing . The more it grows the more the leaves resemble those of a Brunswick with a slight variation. This past week and to my welcome surprise my little guy is popping figlets all over the place and they look nothing like my Brunswick. Long and flat stem ,round with a perfectly white eye and very short or better yet no neck. I don't know if that clears things up or mixes them even more!!!! We' ll have to wait till September for the ripe fruit to find out if I bought yet another Brunswick or something really really cool.. Check out the five lobed leaves with the very small thumbs in the middle of the last photo . Those are the non Brunswick looking ones that make me suspect a different variety. If you have any idea what this could be please chime in. Thanks for reading.
