I've just started using coir. First of all, I'm a relative newbie at rooting with maybe 40-50% success so far. I've been using perlite and moss mix at 70/30%. Some of my lack of success is due to mold and a little bit of rot. Some of the "lack of success" is possible due to time. The cambium layer is still green. Otherwise, little to no signs of life. Some I thought would not take are now starting to put out buds. So maybe my success rate is a bit higher.. I can always hope :)
I think coir is worth a try. Especially if you work in a hydro shop.. where you can get it cheap. Lucky guy. Actually, it's relatively inexpensive as it is for how much you get from a small bale. Good luck.
