Thanks Irene, my back is killing me!

I moved my exotic figs into the garage today and moved my big guys next to the house for a little wind protection. My 5 gallons and smaller are laying down for a nap. My inground tree are going to get hammered so I picked a little snack before the storm. If I have a trade pending with you I hope the hurricane doesn't get your tree.

I'm doing the same thing tomorrow morning.

Good luck, everybody in the storm path. Let's hope it's not as severe as they're predicting.

I hope everything will be ok for everyone on the coast.Goodluck and God Bless you all.

I would gladly trade places with you...

This is going to be brutal. I was hoping to wake up and hear the news say Irene is going out to sea but no she's moving inland slightly. We are going to get hammered. I hope my trees survive this.

71GTO- I hope your plants don't fly away. I ran out of room in my garage.

Oldghost- Lay the trees down next to the ledge facing the wind. Hopefully the ledge will offer some wind protection. Definitely take the tree off the antenna. If they have no fruit maybe a quick prune or defoliation. Good Luck!

Stay Safe Everyone

Same to you Jason. Hey you might have beach front real-estate lol

Haha. I'm hoping to do a little fishing on my roof later.

Is it too late for flood Insurence?

Thanks Jason, I got everything inside. If anything happens to them in the garage I have bigger problems!

I have about 130 potted 2-15 gallon trees that I just huddled together.  I will just hope for the best.  Too much work to try and bring them indoors (and not enough space anyway).  In the Rockaways I put them up on the deck out of any possible surge.  Honestly I am much more concerned for the house there than the figs.

Stay safe, Ed.

Hoping you folks back east will be ok .  ; )

If you guys haven't done so, water your containers thoroughly.  The extra weight will help keep the containers on the ground.  As the rain comes in, it will reinforce your watering efforts.

For future reference (I know it is too late for this storm), it is possible to line up like size nursery containers and run metal rebar through the drainage holes.  This a trick I've seen used often in Houston.  The collective weight of the containers helps keep them all on the ground.

Good luck with Irene.

@James- They are currently being watered VERY thoroughly. I like your rebar idea. If I am unfortunate enough to experience this again I will try that.

I am hoping the power doesn't go out. My sump pump is saving my basement right now.

I had a small nursery in south Fl. when Andrew went through we were a little north of the wost but still got 110 mph winds and I was amazed at how little the potted stuff was damaged they all blew over but I thought that everything would be in the next county after the storm I picked up the plants they looked a little beat up but nothing died.
The big trees in the neighborhood were torn to shreads I had lots of tree work after that storm.

7deuce, my best wishes to you and your family. Don't worry about the trees. Was lucky enough that the April 27th tornado that hit the Birmingham passed by my place there by only half a mile. After everything was over few blocks away looked like a war zone, with many trees and power lines down and the blown away roofs. Then it hit the Tuscaloosa, there it took many lives and flatten most of the city.

I just broke my back carrying all my pots in the garage. I really have to stop collecting trees. I think Irene just gave me a reality check!

Jason how you making out my yard is flooded.

It's not good. I was just outside and walking on my lawn feels like a wet sponge. I am probably going to have severe tree damage on at least a dozen trees that I couldn't get in my garage. I am more concerned with flooding than wind. This sucks and the stupid hurricane isn't even here yet.

I know we have tornado warnings. Hopefully if we do get them they get the trailer park not my area

how did everyone make out? here on the west side of s. jersey got a lot of rain with wind but not real bad. just a couple miles away in pennsville a tornado was spotted. all being said i think we were spared. hope everyone else did okay. we still have a day or so to worry about flooding. I think with the wind i will wait to put the fig trees back out. will that hurt them sitting inside one more day? luke

Total disaster! 5 leaves and 1 fig total broke off all my trees. My basement didn't flood and nothing broke on my house. I am so unlucky. I hope everyone was as unlucky as me.
