That's it!!! It's war time boys....

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and go the the garden section.
There with the pest control products is a small box that contains Grey plastic spikes looking thing with ant poison in it.
For the life of me I can't think of the name now.

The spikes are about 4" long by 1" wide. One half is the spike to place on the ground and the other half is the container that's filled with the bait/poison.

It comes as a six pick and place them where you feel you will need it and it seems to work. I guess they take it to the queen and then they eat it and die.

I use it with my pots, I have about twenty or so scattered around.

Good luck

Found a picture of it.
This is it!

Grants 100500090 10-Count Ant Bait & Trap Stakes

Thank you, Rafed! Everytime when it come to insect poison, my ears are straight up because my family is going to eat those fig on the tree. Am I the only one who feel that way?

thanks again, will try in other places on my yard!

Sprinkle bone mill around your tree and you will be rid of the ants
And fertilize tree at same time.
Works every time

I have several families of chipmunks and massive sized skinks (skinks, not skunks) all around my figs.  They never touch them.

Wow, lots of posts since I last checked.

After looking it up on Google, yes, I agree the grey bird is a mocking bird. Where do y'all buy your netting?

I was thinking about going to my local growers to see if they had any scrap netting that I could cut down to size for each tree/shrub.

As for the Ant Bait above, I just purchased the exact same box at HD, I stuck them in all around the house and 2-3 near my potted figs, not in them. I need to take a good look but I can remember seeing a whole bunch of those little ants inside a few potted trees, I haven't noticed them as much while watering since then.

Oh and I wanted to mention something I thought is funny, I see a lot of people recommending broccoli or whatever to catch ground hogs. In the past 4 months, if that, I've captured at least 10-12 of them, I only used bait (cantaloupe rinds) ONCE for the rest nothing! I dont know if the first one left a scent behind or what but for the following 9-11 catches I used NO BAIT.....LOL!

They sure sound like dumb groundhogs. No we actually have to use bait here in PA. Cantaloupe works well too. I wonder if you have your trap on groundhog path.

Ants and birds!!!   AAAAaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhhh!!!

oh and squirrels!!!!!!  AAAAaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhhh!!!

20 or so years ago (before figs) we had a red mini-daschound.We had a fenced in back yard in a subdivision. He hated all birds and squirrels (they would steal food from his bowl on the patio while he watched through the glass door) He mostly lived inside but he was a terror to all pest when outside Might be worth training one up and leaving him out 24/7. I'm sure any of the Russels or feist would do as well.
I live out in the sticks, so a scoped, $avage MK2,bolt action .22LR works pretty fair for the SQs.

Chipmunks are a major problem when they find ripe figs.  I had a chipmunk problem last year and finally caught it using a havahart trap.  Needless to say, he did not live another day!  They will eat half a fig and move on to the next one.  I caught another one early this year and it had to be a moma because 2 days later when moma did not come home because I executed her; the baby came out looking for food.  It did not know that I was a threat becuase it could come real close to me.  It too, found my figs and decided not to run one day.  One pellet wounded it and one put it out of its misery!  Today, I am chipmunk free!

Now, I am fighting birds and coons!  For birds, I gota get me a pellet gun with a scope!

I hope not since I've been putting it beside my brand new shed!!!

Chipmunks will be a serious problem for me if they discover the flavor of figs, I have yet to catch one eating a fig, aside from watching it climb up a tree. I have an entire generation of them living immediately behind my home. I'd say there's gotta be at least 2 dozen running about.

Here is my problem:

She loves figs -- branches and all.  I finally put up a barricade to stop her.

She is good at keeping the squirrels away from them, though...

Tom,

She sure is beautiful.

I want to go to war too!!

However, I still have no idea what is stealing my figs and how to prepare for my war. Nets don't work and there are too many trees to net. I had two St. Jerome figs that would have been perfect for eating this mourning.......gone. St. Jerome is so good when it ripens during a dry period like what we have in my area right now.

I'm going to throw this out, though I've not tried it yet.
Heard a lady online say she was losing prize koi and goldfish every night to a coon. She said she set a small radio (I assume in rainproof shelter or bag)  by the pond on a timer that came on every night to all night talk radio.
She said she never lost another fish to the coons. She thought they were wary of the human voices all night.
Sounds reasonable and cheap.
I just don't have a small radio or electricity near my figs.
If someone tries it ,let us know how it works at night.
Dave.

I'm sure someone wil give that a try. ):o)

Tom...I've got a dog that likes eating the leaves off of the figs too.  I was realy concerned as whole plants were being defoliated and I didn't see what was doing it.   Seems my Jack Russel-beagle mix finds fig leaves tasty.

Fortisi,

I would check the perimiter of that shed if I were you. Groundhogs love to dig under sheds around here. If you find a hole fill it with used cat litter or fill it with concrete, but fill it fast!!!

Thanks BLB,

I have seen the sob's crawl under there already but since it's sitting on a bed of gravel there shouldn't be any burrowing underneath. I was going to cap off the end so they couldn't easily get under but was then concerned that they might try harder digging through the crushed gravel. At this point, I'm just going to keep trapping and shooting the critters.

Ironically, I can be a softy sob myself, I just bought some netting on Monday and immediately covered all my potted trees. This morning when I went out to water them I found a chipmunk all wrapped up and knotted up good at one end. When I went to investigate the lil bugger was still alive but probably choking itself out lil by lil......so I cut it out and nursed it for a little bit relocating it near the house so the kids wouldn't step on it by accident and left it some water and melon. I didn't think it was going to make it but checking back during lunch time I don't see it anywhere. Now if it just keeps paws off my crop it'll live to see another day. lol

That was pretty tolerant of you Fortisi, hope that Chipmunk appreciates the break you gave him. I am in the city, no shooting, have to let the groundhogs free in the local woods. Even in the heart of the city I have had ground hogs, oppossums, racoons and one skunk find there way to my trap in the past year.

I sure miss Mylo,

That's the name of the Siberian Husky I used to have long ago.

Was Red and White with green eyes.

Rafed, I had a red/white husky named Aurora, what a great dog.  Beautiful golden-brown eyes.  Didn't bother my figs but loved to eat my raspberries...
