That's My Jam!

Well...Not really mine but I was happy to find them. Found these at Home Goods in Manalapan NJ. The Fig Preserves ($4) are made in Rogers AR, and the Jam ($6) is made in Portugal. The preserves are sugary sweet, the jam is more complex with a hint of cinnamon.

I'm not sure I can keep the difference between preserves and jam straight. I think it has to do with fruit to sugar ratio, or sugar content.

Are the preserves whole figs, cut, chopped, pureed?

I was given some fig spread from Columbia. It was a caramelized milk-sugar spread with some chopped figs in it. Right out of the jar, it wasn't so good, but spread on whole wheat toast, it was pretty tasty.

Musillid, Colombians love that stuff, but their figs are inedible, that's why they douse them in syrup. Trust me, I've been there.

Have you had strawberry / fiG. We make that its good too. Walmart sells a fig preserve that preety good

I had them both today with toast. They were OK with the jam being better. If you made me tell you what the difference between jam and preserves was I would not be able to. They were both sweet, but not impressive. Blindfolded I don't think I would be able to tell if they were fig. I think if they were added to sliced ripe figs they could compliment each other. Maybe over ice cream or pancakes.

Either they strained out the seeds or it's less than 50% figs.  What do the ingredients say?  Mostly apple juice, perhaps?
