The difference between container grown and inground.

Container  figgrower can grow almost any kind of figs they choose not so with ingrounds. You have to be more specific. Ever since i joint this forum i have a hard time choosing the next fig to grow in my area, and this is what happens if you are not careful.

That was exactly what i was thinkin' :-D

Yes, what happened?  There looks like there were figs on the branches when they were cut.  Did the figs spoil rather than ripen?  And how old was the tree?

On closer inspection of photo No. 2, is that an orange gas line in view? Was this nice fig tree growing over public gas line?

I thought that was an orange crowbar...

I think the orange object is a hand saw.  My guess is that he decided this variety didn't do well in ground (maybe not a long enough season to ripen figs?) and thus decided to remove it.

Neighbor dispute is my guess.

The one clue to this story that so far doesn't seem to fit in is the critter trap!

I'm going with......it kept dying back to the ground and that is why there are so many branches coming from the ground.  So he sent it to fig heaven.

I'm going with Wills' post.

Rewton, I think you are right about the orange thing being a hand saw.

So from the picture we can see the following clues:

Hand saw
2 pick axe
figs on cut branches
healthy fig in the background
and mysterious critter cage...

So it had to be the Butler with the candlestick

I am guessing it died or did not do well and Bob removed it

Bob who cut those down?

I am cutting down 3 fullsize fig tree's(bushes) to make room for better varieties.I have to cut them down with a chainsaw and cut some of the roots with a handsaw. Needed a exstancing bar,blocking,2 h.d pick's.
This one is the first one,got 2 more to do,which are bigger rootballs yet.Took me 3 hrs plus for this one.
I set the trap year around for raccoons, possum's.I don't have any problems, some deer though, but they just nibble on some of the leaves.I have about 10 more full size tree,s like these,so there allways are figs to harvest.
