It must JUST be getting cold there now so the ground will still be warm. Your garage will likely stay on the warmer side until the ground temps drop. Your concrete floor is a massive heat sink that will absorb the heat until it cools off enough.

i keep all my trees in garage for last 4-5 yrs and no big issue with trees coming back with good amount of figs.

Soni you can always ship the dark types here near Chicago our garage gets in the teens they will go dormant for a fee.  ; )

I still do not understand why warm weather in winter is a bad thing.  As I have said in the past, I have seen fig trees in Indonesia, Thailand, India, Miami, Nassau, Mexico, Hawaii and they do very well.  I seriously doubt Indonesia has ever had temps much below 50 deg unless it was at an extreme elevations.  I did see temps in Nassau below 50 deg in 1976 and 1978, 1 night each year, figs did fine.

@ Martin,   I think winter camp for figs is a great idea,  Send your figs to camp!  Camp Martin.   There's been a few days I would have gladly shipped them out.


@ Danny  That's another one of those fig enigmas. fignigmas? like how people have great success rooting in a glass of water, but if i keep them too damp they mold and rot?

my basement isn't cold enough either its sitting around 60. I remember it being a bit colder down there last winter. But I do have a closet that does close completely and its a few degrees colder. So I kind of lucked out

This is my very first fig growing season during which I were given or have purchased several potted plants 1-2 years old.
There were several nights with light frost over past three weeks.
Temperature dipped to zero or minus 1 degrees C (34F) here those nights and to 23F last two nights.
Since I was away from home and afraid of much cooler temperatures, I tucked plants (in posts) under the deck.
Two sides are closed by house wall, other two are open.
The leaves are still on but are turning yellow and some are falling off.
Meanwhile I monitor the temperature in my garage and it is 11-13 degrees C (51-55F).
Is my garage too warm to transfer fig plant in yet?
In the past winters I never monitored the temperature inside my attached garage with a bedroom above,
but am positive it never freezes.
the only concern is will it be too warm for overwintering fig plants?
Has anybody had similar experience?

Camp Martin, in Chicago sounds better and better.  I wonder if he'll pick up and deliver them back in Spring?

Soni maybe just open the window for a night or two and monitor the temp.
