The Joy of Up-Potting

I have been kinda putting off up-potting from my 1 gal to 2 gal. Once getting the dirt together and mixed and the other knowing for sure how the figs are doing. I had about 20 different ones make it to 1 gal. I lost so many getting these they do mean a lot to me. It turned out to be wonderful. The first one I un-potted was my Ice crystal and this what I saw ...photo 1 (8).JPG
Almost everyone I did today had beautiful roots and was well ready for some new room to grow.
I also cut and potted my first airlayer. photo 2 (9).JPG
Today was so much fun!! I wish rooting the cutting would go this well!!

Great work!   It's a pretty small move from 1 to 2 gal.  I go from 1 gal to 7 gal   :)

Looking good, a great reward for all the work you put into the cuttings.  I too go up more gradually with mine just a cost reason for me.  Dirt ain't cheap so I just go little bit at a time.  Who knows when someone will come along and need one.

My plan is that most of the ones I keep will go in-ground, so I don't want to up-pot too much, I am not sure if the pots were 2 gal or 3. I bought a bunch off a landscaper. After carrying them full back up the stairs they seemed to get bigger.

Hahaha, you're funny Gloria! Hopefully you waited until you were at the top of the stairs to water it :)

Fantastic looking roots, and no circling!  What is your secret?

Gloria, you may  have to keep the airlayer in the shade of the tree for a week or so, it is quite large for the roots.  I had some like that, and there was lots of die back, I since learned that has to be a balance of what the roots can support, but in the shade, it helps it built stronger roots, also, you  can consider trimming up a bit of the top.  but leaves also helps the roots to be strong.. there is a balance. I am sure you will figure it out. they look awesome. Good for you. wonder what this ice crystal fig would taste like.

Great looking plants Gloria.
and I agree with Grasa, that a balance between roots and leaves is needed on the airlayer.
taking some of the bigger leaves off works.
also rigging a humidity dome, a big clear plastic bag with a few holes poked into it, over the plant, in the shade helps too.

very impressive glor. you sure have a hand with figs.
