The Last 2 Hardy Chicago Figs Of Season

Well these few made it when i did not think they would as the weather lately was cold at night , this tree i did not bring in garage as i did 1 of my others. During height of season this was my favorite not for a sweet taste but rather this has a rich if i may rich fig taste, but after tasting these they were only fair tasting at best and a little dry, my opinon was the cold weather also made the insides slightly darker than usual as well on tree there are no more now so i wait till a good frost comes to put away.

Nice pictures. The figs do look nice and rich judging from the nice red pulp. Without starting any controversy, what is your opinion comparing EL Sals and Hardy Chicago since EL considers them the same (we know they aren't).

Steve,
my hardy chicago is from paradise that i bought same time of my EL Sal's . I was trying to buy Sal's at the time and called Belleclare to ship me one i begged them and said name your price, but he said he cannot and told me at the time to call EL as he heard they have a Sal's. I did around 2003 , but i had already had HC being shipped from Paradise or i would have simply bought both same place. They look very very similar when they start to grow in early spring. But as season goes later for me the HC leaves get longer while the Sal's leaves stay for the most part short and wider , also there are a leaf maybe looks a little different on Sal's too later . Sal's for me outproduces HC . The taste for me i could tell you blindfolded which tree is which, i prefer the taste of HC last several years as i enjoy the rich flavor as opposed to the sweetflavor of Sal's. The figs are also similar kinda of but HC i dont know the word but is a little different shape and more like a blueish type and the better looking of the 2 types while Sal's is like a purpleish kind of color. Overall they are real close and i can see how maybe there realted perhaps if thats possible. I have talked to Mikes secretary on phone and the conversation came up and she said there is talk about those 2 tree's, so it must have been mentioned somewhere to Mike the owner, funny thing though she said to me since Mike considers them the same he no longer takes any cutting from the tree parent tree he once considered Sal's. Now that i dont know why , i mean why not?  Anyways conversation was ended with a thank you for your time as i originally was asking about another type of tree when i called. Hope this does not make confusion worse, but this was my experince.

Your last comments on "Mike considering HC and SALs the same" is why I asked you the questions. There was a lot of forum discussion on this topic and I just wanted to know your observations on the subject considering your trees are a little older. Your descriptions are consistent with what others have said. I was also considering a HC in the future and was wondering if there was enough difference for it to make sense. Thanks.

Aw Steve you should have told me i would taken care of that before .  ;)

I tell you though i would get Hardy Chicago from somewhere else other than Mike or i can take care for you in future.

Thanks for the offer on HC (I will sure remeber that for a later time). I agree about Mike if there is confusion or lack of attention to details regarding cultivars. I think it was Herman who said that CH and Sals from there were certainly different. Regarding the other cuttings you sent, I've got real nice initials going on all of them. Waiting for some roots before putting them in vermicullite/perlite.
