The latest possible large tasty fig?

In two weeks or so I will be figless :(
It is either our climate in general or this year only, but I need to find a late good fig to extent my season. The only ones that still might ripen are the winter rooted cuttings that have no sense of the season yet.

Any suggestions? Ideally, a large tasty and productive fig. Thanks!

Geez, you're in SoCa. and done? Are these all in pots?My in ground Strawberry Verte is just getting started
and 2nd flush Preto is right behind it.

My SV in the ground is done as of yesterday , in the pot was done 2 weeks ago.
The rest in pots are all done who knows when.
The MBVS in the ground is also figless.

Shtawi is one of the latest ripening figs. I will send you cuttings in the fall if you want them

Thank you!
When does it ripen for you?
I will get in touch in December then.

It's an incredible dark skinned fig that we hope to spread throughout most of the USA if it proves to be not sensitive to rain, and not sensitive to moisture. I could put you on a list of interested people if you like

Alan,

Thank you! Yes, please add me to the list.

If you want late figs keep the tree growing. Most will set figs as long as they keep growing. They can't set main crop after they quit growing. SV sets as long as it is growing. I've eaten SV in Dec. In my sunroom Jan-March.

A good point, Steve. I started fertilizing a week ago, will see if this produce any more figs by December.
For some reason, the trees slow down their growth quite a bit.

Usually they quit growing from lack of water but nitrogen has an effect as well.

Lack of water: no, on a drip line every 2 days.
Sun: no way, this is the SoCal, summer time in its brightest.
Heat: I wish, 90-100 every day, the nights (65-70) are too warm I would say also.
What's left? I was thinking some fertilizer and that is what I started to give a little. Will see.

All those suggestions are very good points, thank you!
Instead of some other varieties to try to extend the fruiting season. That's easy to try now.

Found this statement:

Sounds perfect for you, greenfig! Wish I could get figs in the winter time!

Do you have Black Madeira, Col de Dame Grise, Nero600m. Those are some I would be looking for.

Dominic,
Thanks for the link. Yes, the Shtawi (or Shatwi) seems to fit, I hope to acquire it some day.

gardenparty,
thank you for the suggestions but those figs are not that late in my climate, they could be a bit later than others but only by a little.

Igor, I was thinking the same thing until two weeks ago. Seemed like all my potted figs were stunned this summer, not very much growth, some didn't grow at all. My only in ground fig (Black Jack)did well and is still ripening figs. Anyways, in the past 2 weeks there has been a growth spurt on most of my potted figs and am seeing figlets. I'm not super experienced but the slow-to-no growth is very weird, something about this summer was off.

So you say it's a fluke?
I hope you are right . And yes, this summer was weird. It was warm and sunny as usual but the plants behaved differently.

Just because it's on drip doesn't mean it's getting enough water to keep growing. Lack of water is by far the most likely factor. Heat and lack of light as you say, no way. Some fertilizer will help but not if water is short. This isn't rocket science.

If these figs have been in the ground for over 18 months in all likelihood your
feeder roots are out at 6-10 foot.Soaker hose is a better option than drip IMO.
The roots outrun the drip and are stranded.

Thanks for your suggestions!
The potted figs are on the drip irrigation, the emitters are actually microsprayers and provide enough water until the dish is full, every other day.
The soil doesn't dry out completely, and the pots have a layer of bark on top that works as mulch.
So yes, water is a valid concern but I am not sure that is the problem.
As Simon mentioned above, it has been a weird summer for him too.
I attributed the absence of figs to the varieties I grow (not late enough) but as we discuss this topic, the cause might be something else.
Although having a really late variety would help to identify the problem easier.

I've noticed that my regular neighborhood trees are having an off season too.
This time last year I could stop almost daily on a particular tree and grap a couple figs,  I swung by the other day and I noticed the figs looked different.
First the size was way down, second the taste was just watery and bland, and from what the owner told me this tree is atleast 10 years old.
An older Black Mission also near me hasn't set any at all!!!
OT... All the stone fruit trees on my street had NADA going on this season.
I've got @ dozen avocados hanging from my 2 year old Hass, hopefully they'll hold on...
