THE OLD WAYS WORK

oh, i meant a method new to me. it's old only in that i just shoved twigs  into potting soil, but i did that indoors.
thanks for the good wishes.

Hi all,
susiegz, you're not telling the truth . Search some topics I responded in; I and others already mentioned that way of doing, sticking branches in the ground.
But some people - me included - grow cuttings in the winter for the experience and for the fun or to get a head start.
If you have a short season, you could have the cuttings grow two years in one.
I mentioned that I haven't been lucky at that - Last year my 2 root-cuttings of "goutte d'or" dried all of a sudden in April, so close to the release to the wild in May.
I mentioned sticking two others root-cuttings, and by now they show brebas for this coming year.

eboone thanks for listing peach preditors. our drought has eliminated all but those crows. they are still here. i guess i can shoot them, like chuck says.
jds, i missed those posts..

Trapping them and relocating or eliminating them is the best solution. You don't have groundhogs in NM, do you have raccoons??
~ i found elimination the ticket ~!

Groundhogs are evil garden critters and need to be eliminated. They tend to eat half of the fruits and veggies they are hankering for and then move on, leaving you with half a fig or tomato and groundhog saliva. They leave huge holes in the ground for horses to trip over. The stupid groundhogs will enter a Have-A-Heart trap and be caught. For the smart ones, you need a shotgun and a steady aim. With the trap, you have this moral issue of on whose property do you drop off the critter to plague the new recipient. Do you give it to the neighbor you dislike the most? In Virginia where I used to live, the standing rule was to carry the groundhog over 3 rivers to deposit on a stranger's property, hopefully a Yankee.

back in western new york we had lots of groundhogs, but i had a dog that would bark and circle around one to freeze it in place,. then, i could kill it.

if i need a trap here, i'll shoot  it in the trap after i catch it. it seems wrong to push my problems onto other people.

i have lots of jack rabbits here, but i hope they don't hurt trees. i bet they'd love figs but i hope they don't reach up to get them.
