The Queen of Trees - Ficus Sycomorus, fig wasp, etc.

Hello,

There have been postings in the past about this fine PBS film titled "The Queen of Trees." I am posting it again because it is a very worthwhile film and also because links to a free viewing of this film come and go. There is currently a full length YouTube viewing option here

The film is about ficus sycamores (the sycomore fig) that grows in areas of central Africa and along the southeastern Mediterranean area. This particular fig is an important keystone species - many insects and animals depend on it (we can also eat the fruit).

The cinematography is excellent. It is one of the best films I have seen that documents the life of the fig wasp and how it pollinates the fig (very similar to the wasp species that pollinates the common edible fig).

I have seen this film at least twice on PBS TV before.

Glad that it is now available on Utube, to be veiwed whenever one wishes.

A great/nice/informative documentary/film.

I do have a small semi-bosai F.sycomours (very-tender) specimen,

that I am just growing for the sake/fun of it.

No fruit expected here in NJ....

Yeah George i recall that what 2 years back og wttw channel 11 here.
That was on our old TV and it looked decent .
Now we have 1 of them nice big fancy TV and i wait till it comes back on to enjoy it .

I've seen that documentary before, it was wonderful.

I have a sycamore fig I bought from Bass (I believe it was him) many years ago. It is grown in a pot and is my favorite plant.
