The real Texas Everbearing fig

Good day, I know this is going to raise some eyes and that's ok. But I have a fully grown Texas Everbearing fig tree. It's leaf patterns look nothing like my 7 different source Brown Turkeys or any of my Celeste figs. Last year, I did take a few pictures of its leaves and fruit. This tree is my largest container tree towering over 9 feet. Two weeks ago I did bring it inside my garage after chopping it down to 8 feet. I'm contemplating installing it in my orchard in March. The figs were sweet strong fig taste.

My source for this tree has 6 or 8 growing in a cluster. They're about 12 feet tall. he built a huge net all around his trees. These are his favorite. Notice how TEB is amber inside and very large. They are not the same as Brown Turkey or Celeste.

Definitely not a brown turkey  :)  Maybe a TX everbearing not?  Could it be a TX BA-1?  Most TX EBs look like BTs.

Not BA-1, it's a red center green skin fig

Nope Bob. It's a TEB. The source is Dave Wilson in California. I have a huge TX-BA1 also and like Blue Boy said....it has a red center. TX-BA1 figs are richer than TEB.

Hey Dennis, Im currently rooting some cuttings of Tx BA-1, what are your thoughts on that fig?  Size of eye, taste.... the source of my cuttings speaks very highly of this fig and its the only one hes even put in the ground. Is there another youve tasted to compair it to or does it stand alone?

Blueboy, I don't have many pics but I do remember this fig. The eye is slightly open with a nice red center. This fig taste a lot like Alma to me.....very rich, very sweet. My tree is large and put out a lot of figs last year. I got 2 figs from my tree. The coons got the rest before I got rid of them. It is definately up there with Smith, Tacoma Violet and others but its not one of those hot desired figs. The figs are larger than Alma and fat. I'll check for photos and post if I find them.

Thanks Dennis, thats the first description Ive had about the fig other than "its a good fig".

Here is a pic I got from a friend who sent me cuttings.  He bought his at a flea market and it was labeled Texas Yellow Ever-bearing.  It was described as large greenish yellow fruit with amber interior, sweet/delicious, yellow skin when totally ripe, quite large, and very sweet like a sack of sugar.
Sorry I don't have pics of the leaves.

Dumb question but what does "ever bearing" for this fig mean?

It has been a year and a half now and you will NOT believe the leaf pattern on my Texas Everbearing today!  Last year, it was 3 lobes.  This year, the leaf pattern has completely changed!  I will post pics soon.  I am still not convinced this fig is a synomyn for 'Celeste".  My trees die back yearly.  My Celeste does not.

The fruit doesn't look anything like a Celeste.

Bump. How about them leaf pics Dennis? I bought a Tree from Home Depot a couple of months ago labeled as Texas Everbearing . Looks kind of like a Brunswick or Brunswick like but now it's starting to pop figs on almost every leaf and the little figs look nothing like my Brunswick. Long ,flat stem round with no neck and white eye? Now I'm scratching my head big time! Any guess will be more than welcome and deeply appreciated. Thanks

Hi Chris, I still haven't been out to take any pictures yet.  But I will later on tonight.  One of my Bradford pear trees decided to bend over by itself 2 days ago and I'm still chopping it up and moving it to the curb!  Looking at the pics of your tree---its definately not a Texas Everbearing.  I'd say its a Brunswick.  It's not Black Mission because the stems are not red.  I'm starting to see more and more nurseries sell trees with that leaf pattern.  Up here in Charlotte, they label them as Brown Turkey.  I bought 4 about a month ago.  I love the leaf pattern which is why I bought them.  They are definately not Southeastern Brown Turkey figs.  Make sure to pinch it now so it can bush out and start putting out more figs.

Will do. Thanks Dennis. They sure have a nice leaf patern. The fruit is nice and large also and with very good flavor. If this ends up being a Brunswick it will be my third one and I have no problem with that.they are disease resistant and grow very well in containers with good fruit production and that is why you see more and more out there. Thanks again Dennis.

All my TEB has a leaf that looks a lot like a Brunswick but the figs are like Chris described.  All the nurseries around here have TEB like mine and Chris'.  There are also TEB White but I have never seen one.

Thanks again Danny ,I was hoping you d chime in on this one! Is it a dark fig though? The eye is pure white. Maybe it gets darker with age?
