I have a fig tree that I acquired about 30 years ago and it never had fruit until
this year. That's right; no fruit. I have threatened to take it out several times, but
it is such a beautiful tree with large 5 lobe spoon bill leaves. It is loaded with one
of the best figs I have eaten. They are medium size, greenish with bronze stripes.
The taste is like strawberry jam.
I will try to post pictures soon.
This was one of the first figs I started 30 years ago. It originally came from Paul
Starnes, the original Mr. Fig, and he did not know the variety name.
What happened to this fig in all those years? Most figs I have grown have some
figs the first year.
Anyway, it is an absolute winner.
I have ripened some good figs this year including LSU Black, Paridiso, Celeste,
B. Turkey,Black Weeping Fig, Hollier, King and many others with 1 or 2 figs.
I have come a long way since the tornadoes of a year ago this past May. Next
year I should be able to report on about 100 varieties.
