I decided to create this thread to offer the complete cycle of a year's changes for this variety that I offered to fellow forum members in......2014

here's is the link to the original thread. I'll put my cuttings on Forum Table!

These pictures will help everybody to know what to expect in every step.

Main crop starts developing fast, you'll see some brebas still on, in between main crop. But brebas won't make it, they fall. (July 10)  20140711_101334.jpg

Main crop starts changing serious colors...Fusia ?... (July10)

very nice. my little tree is looking very cute with beautiful non lobe leaves.  It loves the heat we are having. Poor thing, does not know what will happen when the rain and cold come back.

Sure is pretty. How does it taste?

very nice tree

looking good

It looks really good, Aaron. All of the cuttings that you were kind enough to share with me rooted easily and are growing well. 2 have found homes at friend's houses. IMG_3040.JPG  IMG_3041.JPG  Very much looking forward to this one. Here is a photo of one that is already in a 5 gallon pot. Thank you again.

Gary

amazing!
This fig is very prolific and heavy fruiter.
The very sweet and aromatic figs aren't just tasty, I find them to be very decorative. Great conversational piece in the garden.

Grasa, this would be a good test for this variety, to see how cold hardy it can be.
Gary, you sure know how to grow figs ;)

the Fig looks amazing...if some body have an access and want to trade please PM.
Mark

Hi Shailesh, glad your cuttings are well and growing. :)

Those look very nice....great pictures

Great photos and wonderful looking figs, Aaron. I am so looking forward to tasting these!

Here are my Sultani figs grown from your cuttings Aaron, brought in from the rain for a photo op. They were very vigorous rooters. I hope you are correct that these are common figs :)

Ed, they look great, Next thing you know you'll see some figlets :)

*I have a question regarding this variety...and I am looking for just opinions of people who are growing some Rimada type varieties.

Q:Since it is showing stripes in different stages of growth (on the figs) would this be considered being in Rimada family?

Aaron,

Very nice figs! Are these brebas or main ?
Baud says main  will only ripen by the end of the season and with bluish skin .. (?) no 'rimada' effect.
Sure these are Sultani ?

Francisco

Aaron, sorry for dumb question;
Is Sultani same fig as Sultane/noire de julliet?

Pino,

I think it has been a play of words. The Sultane figs that are sold under that name and your question is about is not the same as the Aaron's fig named Sultani.
The Aaron's name came from a gent that named it that way, moslikely not aware of its true name.

Oh that Sultani.  (never mind,, LOL).
Thanks for clearing up Greenfig.

Francisco and Joe. This variety as Igor mentioned above is called Sultai with the (i), the Noire De Julliet is spelled Sultane.
Sultani , in Farsi means "worthy of a Sultan", being such a memorable fruit it;s supposed to be worthy for a Sultan.

Francisco, this variety has breba but most if not all fall or just hang there among the main crop without ripening. See pictures 4 and 5 in post #1.

A lot of color on that tree, it is definatly very ornamental. Good to hear it tastes as good as it looks, it will be nice if it is indeed a common fig. Another great find Aaron.

Just and FYI a had a Syrian variety called Sultani, but it's a completely different variety. Sultani in Syria is a large green fig with red pulp.

oh my... things are getting complicated...

-French Sultane ( dark purple to dark brown skin and strawberry colored flesh),
-Persian Sultani (Rimada with Red interior),
-Syrian Sultani (Green with Red interior )

Hi Aaron, was this the variety you sent me this past spring? I could have swore it was Sultane you sent me but I could be wrong. Doesnt really matter at this point any way as the two Sultane/Sultani plants I had got chewed up by the dog! If I squeaze hard enough I might be able to get my cuttings back from that K9;)

@Rob, leave the poor pop alone... you need new cuttings :)

Bassem, I'm sorry but I am not the person who named this fig Sultani :)

Do you have a picture of the Syrian Sultani?

Aaron, no need to be sorry, I'm just mentioning there's one with that name. I lost the plant I had, but I will have to go visit that Sultani in my area. It makes large breba followed by a main crop. Sultani is like saying Royal in English... or Vasilika in Greek, and we know several varieties with these names in different countries.
This looks like an interesting and tasty fig, I wonder how it will behave on the east coast.
