The "Sultani" Fig

Well, She spread her wings really well all around the country in this very short time, I sent out about 26 cuttings altogether to different fellow forum growers...I am looking forward to the results myself.

Aaron: Very beautiful and tasty figs. Also, very nice photos. Can you please let me know if you have any starter tree from this cultivar for sell? Please let me know. Thank you.

Best,
Tam

Tam, I have 2 starters that will become part of the The Los Angeles Fig Forest-collection...other than that...I will have plenty of cuttings coming January...please be patient ;)

Aaron: Please remember me when you have them available for sale. Thanks.

Best,
Tam

Pete they look great, thanks for the update...
The third one has such unmistakable look on the leaves...all Anatolian Pastiliere's gave same looking leaves...so typical.
Overall your plants might need more sun exposure...be careful ...if you want fruit on them :)

That's some good looking fruit.

Does anyone have cuttings of this fig? How did it do for you in the East Coast?

Got figglets growing. They have strips starting

I lost my Sultani cuttings to the "Death Machine"

I will hook you up with some after fruits are gone

How would this variety be expected to fare in the swelter of Phoenix, AZ? I'd really like to try...

I have a healthy potted (5g SIP) "Sultani" in it's 3rd season here in PA.  It woke up pretty early, and is growing well, has numerous small figlets only slightly behind my earliest varieties.  If it drops all of the figs again this year I will have cuttings available for those in fig wasp territory.

Thx, Richie & Edgar. Its a great fig. It actually grew roots quickly but my inexperience killed it!

Ed, keep us posted!  Has anyone who does does not have the wasp gotten this to ripen fruit?

I have, Steve, but no one seems to believe that I am waspless:)

How was the taste Gary.

Would you guys say this one is a Black Mission type?

No, Ross, I wouldn't. More exotic.

paully, even though I only had 3 or 4 last year, it was one of the best tasting of my varieties. In the class of Genovese Nero and Ischia Black, in my opinion. Hopefully I'll get enough to make a better comparison this year.

I think i'd better procure cuttings of this variety when available. Yes, that sounds adviseable...

Thanks everyone for your imput.  I will contine my attempt to get these cuttings when they become available.  Great information.  Thanks again.

my Sultani branch on the frankenfig in south LA has produced figs that look like figpig's (also in south LA) with the red eye, that have fallen off before ripening.  Several this year have yet to declare their intentions. If they fall again this year, the whole branch is going to "fall off".

I also have "Unknown Homedepot" from aaron that looks suspiciously similar, with the same fruit drop problem the last two years.  I may have two vacancies on the frankenfig for next spring.

i have a really good unknown that will be ripening soon that it can try out for to become part of team frankenfig :-)

I will have a few cuttings of this variety available, and here is a switch, offered for CA residents only, since it clearly seems to require pollination by the fig wasp.  My tree has been chopped into cuttings, a few of which are yet unpromised.   PM me if interested.  Will be shipping soon.

I could not bear to waste the tree and just toss it out, given how well it does for those in fig-wasp country.

it is a great fig. tasted it the first time last summer. you guys in CA jump all over this great opportunity!

all are spoken for
