The Sweetest fig of 2013 - Violet Sepor

Good day, here in banking mecca, and in 2013, the sweetest fig was Violet Sepor.  It's not a pretty fig but who cares!  This fig is awesome.

enjoy,

Great pictures Dennis.  It's amazing how these varieties that aren't very pretty end up being some of the best tasting.

Pretty enough to eat!! Nice pics!!

thank you, dennis.

I bet the plant itself is very pretty, especially when it's loaded with sweet gems like these!  And that is all that matters in the end.

Dennis, did your tree originate from UCD?

Meghan, I've been thinking of changing my name to "Violet Sepor" because I'm not so attractive, but I am very sweet.  Plus, I think I have the same general shape as the fig in the pics above.

Is the pith sweet?

Dennis, I think the last time you and I talked, I think I remember you saying that White Traina and Celeste was your two top sweetest figs you have ever tasted.

Is the Violet Sepor in your opinion sweeter then White Triana?

Bob @ T. Pine zone 5b/6a Connecticut

Yes, the pith is sweet. Is it sweeter than White Triana? No it is but this year White Triana the birds got most of my WT figs. Those I did sample were sour. Another super sweet fig that I like is Bayenfeige Violetta.

My tree came from Richard Watts.

Are you talking about the Bayernfeige Violetta you got from me?

Yes, I found the Bayernfeige Violetta to be a super sweet fig. I like it because it is a late fig here. Even with the weather being cool when it ripens, it still is a good tasting fig because it starts out so sweet.

So, your saying the Violet Sepor is not as sweet as Bayernfeige Violetta?????

Bob @ T. Pine

Might have to try and find one of these, lol

Bob, yes, I'm talking about the BV you sent. BUT it was not as sweet as Violet Sepor. Don't get me wrong, BV was sweet, but Violet Sepor was much sweeter and richer. BV is going to be a great fig and I'm blessed to have it. It was a shocker and a very young tree!

So Bob, you can put a medal on yourself Who knows, next year BV might top VS!

Nice fig Dennis!

Nice to hear and a nice tight looking eye too.  Any idea about cold hardiness.

thanks for sharing

goss

Dennis, with your very lage collection, could you rank the 4 sweetest figs you have tasted, from 1 through 4?

With 1. being the sweetest going down to four.

Thanks.

Bob @ T. Pine

Bob, that's pretty tough to do!  This is based on my taste and those that I grow in Charlotte, NC.

Dennis, do you have a picture of the La Goccia D'oro? I have one but I don't think it will ripen this year. Curious what it looks like

  Thanks,

   Pete

Pete, I've been eating them as fast as I can get them! I got a few more on my tree. I'll post picks later this week.

Dennis, isn't Don Fortisi a English Brown Turkey?

Bob @ T. Pine

Dennis, I can't decide which one I like the pictures of the most.  Your BT(not) or this one.  They are both just great looking figs!

This is my 5 month old Violete Sepor from cutting..
