__ The Sweetest Fig Of All__

What type of fig was the sweetest you have ever tasted ?

Celeste is the sweetest so far for me.

I have only had RdB. But like any fruit.... the more you let it hang on the tree, vine, branch.. longer, the sweeter it gets.

There is a discussion about sweet figs (in the south) in this thread:

Louisiana Honey and White Triana (from Joe Morle) are supposed to be among the sweetest.

anyone else have any suggestions?

So far my only taste was within a Newton.  My wife grew up with a tree in her yard that her grandfather brought from Italy.  He buried it every year.  I decided to get on board growing some.  I have 5 in pots and just got cuttings from Jimmy.
I can't wait.  Hopefully I'll get a taste in 2013.

For me, LSU Gold and Hollier. White Marseilles is very sweet too for a fig.

Sttawberry Verte. Pure sugar.

My Celeste trees are really sweet. My Italian Golden Honey and Atreano (Belleclare) trees are also sweet, but not as sweet as the Celeste.

Last season LSU Champagne was my sweetest, But Hardy Chicago was the best tasting (a complex taste).
<edit> LSU Champagne was not cold hardy...It died back to soil line (potted 5 feet tall 3/4 inch caliper).

White Triana
Toni's Brown Italian
Excel
Del la Senyora
Smith
Celeste
Hardy Chicago
....to name a few

mine was Hadoulis F White (Greek) , when you let it ripe, it is hands down the sweetest fig I ever tasted!

Tim climber's Italian #1 and FTF
my fellow fig friend Boris gave me a plant he obtained called tim climber's italian # 1 and it's by far is the sweetest fig I grow out of 100 or so next in line is FTF which is from a local charlotte restaurant where the tree is in ground unprotected in zone 7b.  I'd like to meet or talk to tim climber if anyone knows how to get in touch with him. I've heard he has 2 other fig trees he grows. simply titled tim climber's italian # 2 and #3. the # 1 is a red fig with blood red honey dripping from it's eye when ripe. I'll be sure to take some pic's this year before my wife and kids eat them all. here is a pic of an FTF fig that could have went another 2 or 3 days on the tree. [image] photo 6c764e45-78bc-4542-8189-b32442b35487.jpg

Edible,

You might try This member  timclymer  He is on here regular. Do not know if the same guy  but maybe worth contacting him

I'll go "sultane" .
It is small, black and full of sugar. So far, the sweetest for me .
Wish it was more cold hardy. I bought a new tree from sultane - Let's see how it performs this winter and the following years.

What does FTF stand for?

Mike   central NY state, zone 5a

Excell was the sweetest for me... felt like pure sugar.
didnt had much earthy tones though

I'm Tim "Climber" :-)  Enola Italian #1 (there are actually three, verdict is still out on them as to whether they're unique) is a good fig.  Seems to be a Mt Etna type.  There are several posts on the forums about it (search: Enola Italian). Not sure if I'll be able to take cuttings this year.  Perhaps so if time allows and demand is large enough.  The trees have lived in-ground here (6b) for some 30+ years unprotected, according to the owner.  This means they went through some really cold years (probably into the negative teens).  They seem to suffer a little dieback most every year but are very vigorous.

thanks tim pm sent and thanks strudeldog
FTF stand for Fig Tree Fig because the restaurant's name is "the fig tree"
