A huge fig that has a very different taste that I am having difficulty describing. Maybe a slightly sweet melon or faint peachy. It with stood the rain pretty well and will wait until a few more ripen to pass judgement. As is about a 7. Several more to taste and will up it to an 8.
I like your collection Mike. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! That is a huge fig! Is the tree big too?Suzi
Suzi, it is a five year old tree in a 10 gal pot and it is about 4 feet tall.
Awesome tree and nice fruit crop. Is that foil to protect from the heat or the rain?
Good job mike, my Thibodeaux is looking real weak from the monsoon rains we are having everyday. I pulled off the last of the figs to help the tree. I hope it pulls through.
David, it was already water logged and when more was expected so I put the foil on the top to protect from more rain.Ryan, sorry to hear that. It doesnt appear to like much water at all when the figs are ripening.
Honestly, that looks like a good fig for California. How does it compare to a well ripened California Brown Turkey? I know a few of them do make it into those baskets sold in grocery stores...
Really cool Mike! Just got a small plant in meself and am excited for it...pics always look good
Been curious about how this one performs. I would love to see the inside and what results the next one may have. Thanks for posting.
Mike-Any background information regarding this fig? Just a wild guess, but could parents be: "Celeste" X "Hunt"/"Smith"?????Nice looking tree. Hope it meets your expectations.Frank
Frank, no back ground info here but some of the members that went to the LSU gathering may be able to contribute some valuable information.
Updated pics of inside and also taste on 7-27-14. Enjoy
