I honestly think I forgot to mail off an order this year :\ I guess that goes to show how out of it I've been since the kid got here.

First time ordering this year. Mine are slated for arrival on Friday. Anyone have any advice on rooting pomegranate cuttings?

Tim, pom yahoo group had a guide i posted on gardenweb here: http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/fruit/msg111806059649.html
Im really annoyed by my UPS account, and prob switch to FedEx next year. I signed in all week, and today it asked me to update my information again, as if the 1month 'inactivity' limit had passed again (guess inactivity means deliveries vs signing in on website? heh).

Tim, there are 2 excellent articles on rooting pomegranates. From Univ. of FL:http://www.crec.ifas.ufl.edu/extension/pomegranates/guidelines.shtml At the bottom of the article there is a link to USDA-Davis that describes how they propagate pomegranates. Now I'm curious, has USDA-Davis published an article on fig propagation? John

Just got mine. A lot of them are over a foot long. Should I cut them in half or use them as is?

This is my first year ordering from UCD
DO they send them all out at once? I do not have any orders showing at Fedex yet. I had to recently update my CC# info, so I hope that did not affect my order in anyway.
However, I did order late in the year, probably only a month or so before the December deadline, so maybe that could be why.
I have never used a FedEx account before, do they usually send you shipping info?
Thanks!

Hi Christy,I received all 3 of my orders in 1 day.
Last February I placed my fig order, then July came and I ordered Grapes, then November came and I ordered pomegranates.
Last year people got their packages spread out over a several week period. I doubt that updating your cc# with FedEx would have anything to do with your package not shipping. I did receive notification from Fedex about my package, but it was something that I had set up in my profile with Fedex.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Cathy!
Actually, what happened is that my puppy beagle chewed my debit card, and I had to get a new one! LOL! So it still had the same numbers on it, but not the same security code, and there were a few days this week where I was in limbo with the old card being cancelled, but the new card had not arrived yet, so I was hoping that they did not try to charge my account during those few down days.
I never used FedEx before, but I see there has been no charges under billing history so I assume that all is good and that they did not try to charge me yet. I sent my order in November, so I assume i would be at the bottom of the list anyway.
Thanks again! Christy

i ordered 9 different cuttings. i got 5 out of 9. they are very healthy looking cuttings. per their invoice, the rest were not available at this time.
i got ton of calvert and ischi (?) white.. or was it green..
cutting them into about 4" with 3 nodes each, i ended up with at least 3 cuttings of each.. totaling 24 cuttings. i got 9 cuttings out of calvert, but i heard calvert doesn't do too well outside of cal.

I just received my tracking number for the fig cuttings I ordered from UCDavis and I had placed my order on 9/16/2011 so if you ordered around this time you should be hearing from them too.

Just wondering if anyone else is still waiting for their cuttings?
I have not received mine yet, and have not seen any activity on my Fed Ex account.
This is the first time I have requested from them, so just curious if anyone else is still waiting on cuttings too.
thanks!

Yes, I got a confirmation from UCD when I placed my order.
I just keep having issues with the Fed Ex site, and hope that something on that end is not the reason why. I have never used the account before, so did not know if maybe I had it set up wrong.
I check the billing page, and sometimes it says to call customer assistance because it cannot display the page. Although, I did just check again today, and it still shows no activity has been on my account.
I did update the CC# about a month ago, and that seemed to go through ok.
I will wait and see,
thanks guys!

Thanks James! that is at least what I wanted to know. I figure if they are so busy and there is a problem, they may not go through the trouble, but it is good to know that they will.
Still no cuttings or a confirmation of it being sent yet. Will see what happens.......

Finally received my UC Davis order.... I was worried for a while that it wasn't in the cards,. Last years order arrived very early March. Many single cuttings, and I received almost all I asked for. It is great day for my inner fig loving child.
Some mold spores arrived with the cuttings, will need to soak them in an my anti fungal solution of diluted pool algaecide for a few minutes and lots of work this coming weekend.

Call the Fedex customer support line. They are very helpful and can check to see if your account is set up correctly. At least you could narrow the problem down a bit.

Christy, I didn't order anything from UC Davis last year, but in 2010 my order didn't arrive until April 30th. I'm still waiting for this year's order, but based on my other experience I'm not worried. They've got a lot of orders to ship, but there's still plenty of time.

Based on my last order, I'm going to wait until at least May 1st to follow up. Also, for anyone so inclined, they do appreciate a thank-you email after you get them. They go to a lot of work to make these cuttings so readily available.

Thank-you email sent. And thank YOU Ken, for bringing this up. I am ashamed to admit I hadn't sent one untill I read your post above. My UCD cuttings (the one that I kept...it was 12" so I cut it in half and made two out of it), are bagged and allready showing root nodes.

I should have stayed patient--I sent an email yesterday to ask about the order, and it arrived today. Three of us here in Tucson ordered together, and the only variety that didn't get shipped was Ischia Black.

Hi, I'm new to the forum so this might sound like a dumb question. I ordered cuttings this year 2012 from the GRIN database, the part where it said "what is the research you will be conducting" confused me, so I just said I was a home gardener that wanted to grow figs where I lived. I received a confirmation e-mail listing the cuttings i ordered and their DFIC#. Then I received a different email with an order confirmation number from UC Davis thanking me for giving them my FedEx account number. I never gave them an account number and on the order form I didn't see any mention of giving them an account. Did I miss something on the GRIN order form? How do I give them them an account number? Is GRIN and UC Davis the same thing even?

The first email you received was probably automated. The second one was probably a copy and paste. Although they have been accepting orders with the now required method they have failed to include a space for shipping numbers. I'm sure it will be corrected as many others have probably done as you. If they sent you an order conformation they will send out your order at their expense or ask for a shipping account number at shipping time. This service at UC Davis is funded buy the USDA and the job security of their personnel depends on the volume of business they do. I'm sure no one there really cares what your intentions are as to the cuttings but they do have to follow USDA guidelines. In the past the shipping account number was not required and the cuttings were shipped. If you get a FEDEX account number you can easily send it to them by email.
