Nice Photos Martin (as usual)

Why are you getting rid of the dark Port.? Is it that you don't like them?

I have a couple of those plants and so far so Good

Thanks

Very nice plants. I want to be able to achieve ones as healthy as those.

The fruit on the Santa Cruz Dark looks interesting. Is it as sweet as it looks?

I guess the Santa Cruz is no big surprise, but why the other 2? I have high hopes for BB in the ground here.

Martin gotta give you credit for what your doing some of us just dont have the courage to do it.

Cecil i really like the Dark Portuguese as it is very similar to my Hardy Chicago but thats just it i cant keep all the ones that are similar .

Gina the fruit on the Santa Cruz Dark tasted better last season they were sweeter with a faint melon type taste. It produced well last season and i propagted it from UcDavis when listed as san pedro type then later changed, its still listed on a site or 2 as san pedro type fig (breba only).
Here in my climate i only had a few breba and it produced good amount main crop that was better tasting.

Black Bethlehem is good fig just not great for my palate but many will like im sure.

Nelson as i age it gets harder for me with several surgeries and wheeling these in and out of garage becomes a little more difficult each season .

Its a lot of work give them there best care.  Its only me that  fertilize them , water them , and also to root prune them which i have to do some each season on a rotating basis.

One day perhaps i will be in climate where i can put some select few inground and just have to limb prune and little fertilizer only.

Thanks Martin,

Like I said I have two nice Dark Port.

But I killed my HC...Good to know it is a lot like HC

Martin my advice to you is..."go South young man, go South". That will solve many of the situations you are now facing.
"gene"

@Martin,

I think that the Santa Cruz Dark fig was not enough 'dark/black[/red]' for you.

One of these days, I will find a pure 'white' fig that will make you a convert...

@ Gorgi

Well good luck converting Martin...HEHE

Gorgi,

My fig tasting experience is limited to Brown Turkey and maybe some Alma and Celeste. From what I have read I guess I'm in the low rent wrong side of the track position.

Yep, I'm a desperate case. Probably doomed unredeemable.

BUT

if you feel the need to reach out and help a poor soul...

I will volunteer to be a potential convertee. I can send you my address and I promise to try everything you send me.

I'm feeling pretty weak. I hope you can save me!

You should probably just send ripe fruit until I'm stronger. Later I could try some rooted plants or cuttings. Hopefully one day I'll be strong enough to just require the occasional cutting to keep my new soul and spirit well diversified.

I just want you to know I am just over whelmed with the love you are so generously willing share with poor pitiful me.

Languishing away,

If you like the BT and Celeste's tastes, then they are fine figs for you, but there are so very many others that are good , too.  Do you hear them calling to you?

noss

Thanks Noss,

I do hear them calling but only on still moonless nights! LOL

I must be patient. I have been trying to expand my tasting experience. I have inground plants of LSU P, Lemon and Italian Strawberry that hopefully I'll get some figs from later this year. So far the BT is the only one with fruit.

I have rooted cuttings of Ischia Green, RdB, Negronne, Petit Negri, LSU Gold, JH Adriatic and several more but I guess it will be a few years before they produce.

Upper right corner of any post is the post number (in this post it appears #15) and then just to the left is a image of a page with Quote marks on it. Clicking that box will box quote that post.

If you have multiple post (in the same thread of course) RIGHT click and select Open in New Tab. A new window will open with the reply box in it. Do this for each post you wish to reply to. Then cut and paste the contents from each new window into only one of the reply windows. Make sure you skip a couple lines between pastes to keep things separated. Then go back and just type in your replys to each of the Quotes.

Easy. PM me if you have any issues.

Thanks to Noss for asking the Question

And thanks Darkman for explaining how to do that!

Huh... how cool is that!  An "automatic" way to do the quotes thing.  So far I'd just been doing it "manually"... by putting the word QUOTE inside of square brackets  (the characters [ and ]  ).  Then the text I want quoted  (whether copy/pasted, or totally made up), and then put /QUOTE in square brackets at the end of the quoted text.  Seems to work OK.  And there are extra parameters if you want to show who the quote is from... e.g. QUOTE=membername inside the tag for the start of the quote.  Here's an example:
