This cultivar, did ,succed against the rain of the century .

Nero 600M,I harvested today a couple of ripe ones, the first time this Summer.
They started to change color on Aug 30,during Irene hurricane and were ready today.
It performed the same way as last year, without fail, even tho the condition were very bad for ripening figs.
No split,no sour,no water inside them, just a super sweet juicy perfumed fruit, one of a kind, and personally instant favorite for me.
It is not big but who cares about size, not me,that is for sure.
I had fruits last year and already gave free cuttings to some of my best fig friends, from my own initiative, and I am so happy it turned just like I thought extremely good in adverse climatic conditions.
You people that got cuttings from me ,multiply this one and plant at least a couple of trees, and if you do not have room, yank out some Brown Turkey or Celeste and plant this Gem.
With Nero 600 M,I am getting close,to the end of my search for the best figs for my climate.

I'll have to add that to the "want list"!

How does the size of this fig and cold hardiness compare with marseilles vs?

Herman, I also meant to ask for a comparison with malta black.

Very good information, herman. Do you have the BC's Nero? If so, are there any differences between your Nero 600M and the BC's Nero? (same cultivator??)

Navid.

Now thats a nice looking fig Herman.
But best part it performs the way you need.
Congradulations .

I want to add this about this amazing fig: Herman was very kind, and sent me two of the very limited cuttings.  One was forked, so I cut off about a two inch section to make three cuttings.

All three rooted quickly and are now growing in-ground healthy and strong in our orchard.

And the two-inch cutting grew to over 6 feet and fruited its first season!

This is going to be the next great fig.

Herman, you are a genious my friend!  This fig is amazing.  And very beautiful also.  A real winner!

To all who asked, how it compares to this and to that.
I have already said in the title:
This is the only cultivar that resisted the 8 inches rain,of Hurricane Irene and ,the other 14 inches additional rain trough August.
August 2011 according to my rain Gage dumped 22 inches +,of rain in my Back yard garden.
All fig trees that had ripe fruits from August 10 to now,had some sour fruits ,splinted some, filled with water etc.
This is the only one that did not.
So,I can't compare to any other in rain resistance.
I am not very good to compare which flavor is better and what the Flavor is,and so and forth.
In good dry periods,Malta Black,Marseilles Black vs,Stella,Adriatic JH,Gino,Stella,Nero 600M,Violette de Bordeaux,Aubique Petite, and other can be all exceptionally good.
But in rainy days when the soil is wet,and filled with water, and is raining from above, then, only Nero 600M,is still just as good while the others start having problems.
Violette de Bordeaux,(as an example only),is the best tasting,a fig fruit can be when get ripe properly in a dry period, but I had the same cultivar,in 2008,open up like a open flower with 4 and five petals, lost Flavor, and sugar, and it did suck water in,and tasted watery, in more than one occasion,in the 8 years I am growing it..
So Far I had fruits from Nero 600M,last year and this year ,both time got ripe under rain, and the eye stay tight, and the flavor sugar and thick non watery meat stay the same with no dilution.
If it will be the same next year,I will be able to say:This fig is best in rainy climate.

Rafed - This is a hard to find variant. I gave your buddy in Toronto a healthy tree this April. It is a good grower and he may be able to spare you a cutting. It is a super rooter. Check with him. I am short of cuttings now as I have promised my brother. Will short list you.

Thanks Paul,

I was there last Monday.
But too many things to mention.

Tried to edit on my post but accidentally deleted instead. Been doing this often lately.

NKESH:I did not answer you:I grew Belleclare Nero, and is not the same.
Belleclare Nero in fact turned out to be a light brown fig,and not black like Nero should be.
