This fig looks similar to XX?

I'll reveal the ID of this fig but would like help in folks saying what they think this fig looks like.  No prize for guessing (you won't guess the ID I have for it, I just want to see what it looks similar to.  The fruit photo is from a friend of mine in NorCal.  The small plant of mine is just shown for leave shape.

BT

Okay, serious guesses only, please.

I should have mentioned that this variety was imported several years ago from Italy (don't know the region).

I-258

Italian BT then ????

Seriously, though there is some variability in the figs pictured, the darker ones look like pics of Ischia Black that I have seen posted here. And although your plant is small and immature, the leaves might look like that too.
But then, I'm not experienced at all with real figs. Yet. :)

not Ishcia Black. too big for it. although the shape is not right. and specks aren't aplenty like on IB.

i would have said Black Madeira or Figo Preto, but the fig is from Italy. I-258 is one of the similar fig.

RdB

St. Jerome, GM-1

Jon, do you have any leaf photos of St. Jerome?

By the way, in 2005 we visited the chapel of Saint Jerome in Bethlehem in a continuation of the cave where Jesus is believed to have been born.

All this time I thought Jesus was born in a barn?
oh Jesus!

St. Jerome appears to be the closest match so far.

Italian 258 has less lobes on the leaves.  Not quite sure about the fruit having long stems.

I don't know of any BT that looks anything like this fig and I don't know of any such thing as Italian BT.

The Ischia Black has reddish petioles and rounder leaves.

RdB has much deeper lobes on leaves and fruit turns a solid dark.

The fig I've posted in post #1 is Italian 376.  I have been told that the fruit is very good in Ukiah.  The paper that lists the Italian varieties says it might be Panache but Mark Albert laughed when I asked him about that.  This is not planted at Prusch Park so it doesn't get distributed much so there's not much info on it.  I've just sold my only extra plant of it (unless I discover more that I've missed).

Some people have made some negative comments about Todd Kennedy losing the names of the varieties he imported.  I was told a few months ago that someone in Italy had brought him the cuttings and that the tags were already missing.  I haven't confirmed this with Todd.

Barnisotte Gris

Italian 88

Brogiotto Nero

Vito

Danny, the leaf of Barisotte Gris appears different in Jon's variety list and the color from the skin bleeds into the pulp.
Dennis, Italian 88 is a yellow fig! And it tastes crappy! :)
Vito, can you point me to photos of Brogiotto Nero to compare?  None on Jon's variety list.

Thanks, folks.

And Santa drinks Coke!

We have been deceived by quaint images.  A manger is a feeding trough.  Lots of caves around Bethlehem.

Hi Harveyc,
The figs alone could match my ufti or the Dauphine strain.
But the leaves of the tree do not match.
Does that fig require pollination ?

Harvey, here is a link to the site:

http://www.ficuscarica.com/carica/brogiotto%20nero.html

Vito

jdsfrance, I don't believe it requires pollination but will need to fruit it myself to confirm.  I'm pretty sure Mark Albert does not have a caprifig and believe fruit set would be light without one in his yard.  The Dauphine on the F4F variety list has 3 lobed leaves.

Vita, the Brogiotto Nero on the ficus carica site are solid dark black when ripe so that does not appear likely.  Since the varieties given to Todd were different, I don't believe it's likely the same variety would have been given two different numbers by Todd (i.e., 258 and 376).  The neck on 258 seems thicker than 375 and I don't see much of a stem on 258.  Also, 258 leaves are not lobed as much as 376.

Thanks for your continued help and interest!

I 395

Harvey you may have to wait until the plant gets more mature as the leaves are still changing.
