This is my latest challenge.

Few days ago it arrived along with a big collection of other varieties...
One of the Salce was in a very bad shape, rot had taken it's toe and before throwing it away I decided to wash it really well to get rid of the soft parts.
I end up with this.
So after examining it carefully I realized there were at least 3 nodes that had survived the rot. So, after drying the log, I treated it with melted Paraffin (to seal the edges and to protect them from disease and more rot).
This is the final product after treatment and before rooting.
Can be challenging, but then, who doesn't love a good challenge :)

The things we do to save genetic material .

How are you bringing  in plant material to California ?

Are you following the proper entry procedures to the state
for plant material.

Can you post the paperwork showing these cutting received
the necessary fumigation to enter the state.

Jack, I know you are hungry for trouble but not everybody has to import cuttings to be able to grow.

Aaron, it is illegal to import any soil/potting mix from anywhere or plant part, cuttings included, from a bunch of states to California due to threat of RKN. Do be cautious. Jack is making a valid point.

Are you aware of the regulations required to ship a cutting from any state in the US
to California ?

Can you post the phytosanitary certificate you received with this cutting,
also the inspection clearance cert from California, pesticide treatment certificate also please.

These are all required for ANY shipment of plant material into CALIFORNIA.
Does not matter if you are a business or an individual,
this is required for plants or cuttings.

Can you show us how you comply with these regulations and laws
by posting your documentation.

This would be helpful for other members in California,
so they know how to obtain cuttings from out of state as well.
Share your knowledge with us.

You are following the laws, right ?

Oh no, I think I messed up and sent 3 cuttings to someone in California, am I the only member that has done so? I feel real bad now.

For within California, there is Jon (owner of this site) and Richard Watts.  I have not bought cuttings from them so I cannot personally attest to their quality; however, I hear really good things about them.  Just in case you guys didn't know already, it might help avoid problems of interstate deliveries and problems with paper work etc.

Richard watts is exceptional, his cuttings when available are just like Jons, great quality. Good people.

In addition, California has plant sniffing dogs. I found that out when I sent some cuttings to another Calif forum member - they were 'noticed' by one of the states fidos. I did not know that even within the state I was supposed to have labeled the package saying it contained plant material, and what it was. The package did reach its final destination because they were healthy, and in the end all was well. But be careful when sending plants to and within California, especially sick ones like Aaron's. Those should have been destroyed immediately.

Gina, you silly girl ;-)
No need for Aaron to destroy them,
don't you know that Aaron follows a procedure to insure that is not necessary:

"All my cuttings are washed with hot water,
dried and both ends are dipped in melted Paraffin
to protect them from dehydration and diseases"

Some hot water and wax cures all the diseases.
I wonder when the plant people at the USDA will realize this,
no need for all these silly regulations,
hot water and wax is all that's needed.
;-)

I heard his next experiment is to use hot water and wax to cure the Ebola virus.

Since figs sometimes smell like cat pee I suppose the dogs don't have too much trouble detecting them!

Good one Steve, good heads up.

Show us the paperwork from this "big collection" you just received.
Teach the members how YOU follow procedures for bringing plant material
into California.  They would like to learn how to do so also.
Share your knowledge.

Gina...good you learn after you get caught...some people never learn...

HungryJack...the Mother of all troubles...who the heck are you to question people..at least the Aaron person when he promise, he Deliver ask Jon...nobody qusetion him when he deliver cuttings to Jon or other fellow members...

at least he did not lick his spit like you... I remember last year at the Staten island fest when you promise to give members some used pots you got for free...and you changed your mind at the last moment...
you excuse that all of the sudden you did not check the forum to know that the location changed...if you had it in your heart you could find a way....but...

I like to read the forum, but some times there is double standard here...you do not like the person just ignore him...
Best regards,
Mark

Here we go again! Jon, help!

People, focus on the topic of figs and resolve your personal issues in private, really nobody needs to watch another washing their dirty laundry...
This is a learning curve for everyone and like any other topic, there are the dissents. What I see if difficult communicating.

I have traded cuttings with Aaron and many other members. I have people flat out deny sending me anything, others promised that by fall... well, maybe fall of 2020, really does not matter what you say.. just focus on the topic.

We are all here to share our experiences, photos, and our craziness for fig.  Common, lets focus on what brought us here in the first place.

Aaron, like you, I also tried saving those semi rotten cuttings, with not so good luck. At least you named them correctly, I lost many and have many... which became unknowns to me, until they fruit and I can determine what they are.  Some struggle growing. Some pretend to be dead. I wish you better luck than what I had.

How about those figs!!!

Everyone be cool.

Are you related to Aaron ?
I ask, because you are as accurate as him.

I'm not questioning if Aaron delivers cuttings to people,
I do not question his honesty in that respect.
I asked HOW HE BRINGS CUTTINGS INTO CALIFORNIA.
Asked him to show his paperwork and explain to others how he does
this, as there are numerous regulations to do so legally.
If procedures are not being followed, that is plant smuggling,
and the USDA takes a dim view of those activities.
Or is ok to break the law because you received a few cutting from Aaron.

Sorry, you are wrong again,
I filled my van with containers,
and went to the site where the fig festival was held
for the previous 2 years and there was NOBODY THERE.
I did not know the location was changed TWO DAYS BEFORE THE EVENT
until I came onto this site.  Did not know I had to check daily to make sure
an annual event is going to move its location.  It was because the promoter
failed to secure the proper permits for the event.
Posted pictures of my van loaded with containers on this site, go look for them.

So, I guess you're wrong with both of your comments.

If you would like to be a man and apologize for your errors and  FALSE accusations,
that would be nice.

We need some seasoned members to help stop this or else this forum is doomed, it is getting so it is not as enjoyable.

HungryJack
No I am not...
if you cared about rules and regluation...you would have helped the person in aonther topic regarding FIG FROM ISRAEL... BUT YOU IGNORED IT...you just want to teach and intimidate Aaron...you are not after rules and regluation but just to show up Aaron
you could have called any body who have a computer and you can check this website to see what happen...there is smartphones, you do not have one, then there telephones and computers...if I get an address wrong I Google...I call home so somebody can Google for me...

Life is Not black or white...there is Tam...

but I see it is Monday business is slow , why not hit on the people...

I apologized when I am wrong...but here I am not...
Mark

What I want to say to Jack is this.
California is the Fig Paradise (for me the least) and I don't have to make illegal moves to attain any fig varieties.
I know in past when I mentioned knowing few, very private in nature, collectors who are at a close vicinities to me you said "then why don't you ask them to join the forum" as in (prove it you are not lying). That just demonstrates the level of your immaturity. To you; everybody HAS to show and tell what they have? C'mon!

...And please let me continue working on my project and stop polluting the threads you have no contributions to.
Anyway, I'm not going to read this thread until I see some interesting results on my experiment on this poor cutting, LOL
Have a great day everyone.

Kelby, I value your sincere concern. It is a valid one but don't you think I would know it by now? After all, we all know how Jack called FDA on SEVERAL forum members in past. He is famous for it, LOL
When we have a RAT within us, we don't have to look outside for the reasons of trouble.

Gina, this sample was shriveled/dry and  half dead due to refrigeration and dehydration, plus it's a local sample, I don't care what Jack is barking about , if you ask me, I would LOVE to meet my local FDA people. I like to know who is who in my county. Nothing to hide!

...And Gina, I want to apologies to you here in public. For comments with bad selection of wordings due to bad/negative momentum within the context during that time.

So you are back to calling fellow F4F members names again?   If nobody ever told you.......calling people names is negative.

Btw......USDA not FDA.
