Hi everybody,

This is my newest rooting project, It was sent to me by a Forum fig friend, as I understand it, it is from his Great Grandfather in La.
That would be Louisiana not Los Angeles.HAHA
The friend had did an airlayer and decided to trim these two little guys off thinking it might help his new airlayer!
I washed the cuttings in Dawn dishwashing soap, the the 10% Clorox, then I let then dry, and then they went into 50/50& Perlite/UPM into a little clear plastic tray with lid for Humidity control

In the past I have been able to root cuttings this small but they died because I tried to cup them up too quick, or did I drown them??
Keeping fingers crossed!

{EDIT.......I got my wires crossed on the kind it was, that happens every time I try to multi task.It is not thought to be a Celeste

Cecil, looks like a challenge, I wish you luck. With nodes so close together it looks to be a slow grower. With a cajun heritage, do you think they'll be seasoned or just taste like boudin, haha.  I'm attempting to root a few negronne cuttings just a little longer than those. No signs of roots yet.

Hi Cecil, I didn't understand your second picture. It doesn't look like it's in a pot---maybe it's just me. I was going to suggest maybe using smaller cups(not so deep) thinking it would keep the media from staying too wet, but looks like you've already planted them! Good luck!

The second picture don't show it but I put the little guys are in a plastic salad tray, like you would get at a place to go!

I thought it didn't show up very good also.

The little cuttings are laid in the tray horizontally
about 3/8" deep.

I have been able to root, then kill them poor little Guys, But then I have been able to kill them big guys as well!

Ciao Cecil,  you will have no problem rooting them, they will be fine at this size. As long as it gets what it needs not too much, not too little, just like us people, everything in moderation.  I rooted few only 2 inches long.

I like messing with the cuttings! Keeps me out of trouble, well maybe not all the time...HEHE

I have about a dozen "one-node-wonders" growing in the greenhouse, right now, so should be very doable. I'll get pix done one of these days. Just don't get them too damp.

In the past when I was trying to root cuttings in potting soil I got the potting soil pretty damp, I won a few, lost seems like about as many as I was able to root! So I emailed Scott and asked how he did his one node Blk Madeira cuttings, he was kind enough to explain just how he did that, I think I got his info squared away in my little brain, When I mixed the UPM & Perlite @50/50 mixture, I did not dampen that mixture at all, I cleaned the cuttings like Dan had said with Dawn dish washing soap then rinsed that stuff off, then I brushed them gently with a 10% Clorox sol. then let them kinda air dry, then into the the little tray, THEN I just dipped my fingers in water and sprinkled water that way off my finger tips 3 times and buried the little cuttings about 3/8" horizontally in the soil, then closed the lid, Now we watch and wait!....Dang this is a long reply, I will rest up now.

You took on a challenge. 

One node cuttings are not all that hard, but you took on TIP cuttings..--Those have been the hardest for me.   I'm over here rooting for you. 

A friend sent me four tip cuttings this summer and I tried them all.  One by one they died until I cut the uppermost buds off the last one.  That one grew and is now about four feet tall. 

If you get these going be sure to show us the pictures when they are potted up.

Cecil any luck yet? The two one node cuttings I have been trying to root are covered in Root Initials but no roots yet I have had it on the heat mat for 11 days now.

Hi Cecil I too put them in potting soil but on the heating mat also with a dome cup with some holes just too see what happens. I was going to throw these two out but I decided to give it a try and see what happens. I started mine  on Oct. 19th 

What temps do you have your mat set at? Mine is not on the heating mat.

Cecil the mat I have is not adjustable but it does not heat up too much the good thing is that my office is always warm so that helps to root cuttings temps are always in the 70's + in the office. Most of the cuttings that I put on the mat for a week seem to root quicker, this time I put most of the cuttings less time since I had 20 cups with cuttings so I only put them for about 5 days each except for the one node cuttings I have left them there since the 19th or 20th not sure now.

I have talked the boss (wife) into letting me buy a new heat mat & thermostat, I have been told by someone that has been using that setup to set it between 72/74*Degrees Fahrenheit

That is why I asked.

Cecil, when you get your heat mat set it on a piece of hardboard insulation. I have mind on one inch thick insulation board. It works a lot better that way.

Well I put the two little cuttings in 50/50 Perlite/UPM!

I lost one of the little cuttings (rot)

the other one has a root about 1/4" long, so that is a good thing!
