In new improved Baggie method

Beeeeeeeautiful!

Thank you Sue, Its all thanks to you. I already pulled 2 figlets out of the abebereira.

Hey, Nelson.  I want to make sure I understand what you did.  You used 100% ProMix?

When did you start the Abrebereira?

C.J.

Hey C.J yes only Pro-mix BX it already has some perlite in it I didnt add anything extra just moistened the soil before putting it in the cups. All these cuttings were started at the same time wich was about 2 weeks ago. I already have 10 Cuttings started the same time in Pots. Some I even started in pots since they arrived with initials.

Here is the Preto I started in a 1G pot already had to add soil 3 times as it keeps growing roots higher up on the cutting.

Hi Nelson,
very nice indeed , im happy for you that they are doing well as they look great.

Now come later in season dont forget to post more pictures in between
DIAPER DUTY.    ; )

Best Health

LOL oh I will I bought a camera specifically for my fig Hobby wich I have at work along will 95% of my plants, My office Orchard lol

Nelson just a though is that office roof a flat roof ?
You know where im going by asking that question.  ; )

That's some fast vegetative growth on the Ababareira. I just bought 2 bales of Pro-Mix BX- I have lots of plants to pot up, and it really seems to work better than most of my homemade mixes. I started mixing 3/4 perlite to one part Pro-Mix for my fig cuttings. I think I would still lose some cuttings early on if I didn't lighten up the Pro-Mix. So far so good with the new mix and cups with air holes on the sides- healthy, fast growing white roots.

Martin dont be giving me any ideas its bad enough as it is lol.

Mscalito, I was very carefull with how much water I added to the Pro-Mix BX I used a squirt bottle and made sure the soil was fluffy and didnt push it down either. The ones I started in pots I added allot of perlite atleast 50/50. I also started a batch using 40% Perlite 40% vermaculite & 20% pro-mix I just noticed today that the roots are starting to appear through the cups I will post pics in a couple days. I have always used Pro-mix but used to use the regular potting mix the BX with Mycorise to me is allot better.

Nice to see that you got the chico to root so fast. All of my cutting from Jon are rooting pretty well, but the chico is giving me trouble for some reason. So far all three of them have made huge calluses but no roots or vegetative growth yet.

John I found the Chico Strawberry to be an easy rooter they all showed initials around the same time Some went into cups or the new baggie and the others directly into 1G pots. even the ones in the Pots have rooted as the roots are coming out the bottom.

That's kind of strange. Mine are by far the slowest for me. I potted up the one with the largest callus even though there are no roots yet just to see if that may get it going.

Nelson
The soil in the picture for Pareto seems to be modified a bit with pine  nuggets. Are those pine chips added extra to the Pro-Mix BX?

Congrats Nelson. Looks like I may not need to waste time to root my cuttings. I may as well get it from you if you have spares. I can trade my cuttings for something else. ....... Just kidding Nel.

However, I have to add I can now root with confidence knowing I have a back up source. Alittle more variants to my small but growing collection. I used Promix HP. Happy with it too. I add some perlite & some bark mulch especially right at the bottom so that when I sear the bottom off to cup over a gallon container or 32 oz cup, I don't damage the roots.

Akram yes that Preto I started it straight in a pot and added allot more perlite and pine nuggets to the mix.

Thanks Paul, In the beggining when I started rooting I would always add half an inch of perlite at the bottom of the cups and it does help allot. Sometimes it seems the more you do the more you forget lol but like you said it does help specially when you cut the bottom. Paul I will keep one aside for you just in Case as I have 4 in pots already.

Nelson, you are an early riser. Thanks for the kind thoughts.

Its great to know you are rooting successfully, especially getting the right method & temp to initiate rooting. The second stage is potting up. I like to pot up with high perlite mix like at least 50 to 60% mix. However with the cup on top of pot or another cup, it eliminates disturbance of the new roots and less need to higher perlite to Promix soil mix. Survivabilty increases and certainly I try to be careful with watering until ready to transfer to 3 or 5 gal.

Paul I took your advice with cutting the bottom of the cup and putting the cup directly into a 1G pot and in the last week noticed the roots have come out of the cup into the 1G and have reached the drain holes. On that one I sent you pics the mix in the 1G pot is atleast 50% perlite with a little bit of pine nuggets at the bottom of the mix and the rest soil.

Doçe Cutting

Nelson, 2 methods I do to my 32 oz potting cups in up-potting.

a. Option 1 -- I placed bark mulch nuggets at bottom first and
rooting mixture on top of bark mulch nuggets. When roots
grows to the bottom, the searing off the cup bottom is made
easier & damage avoided in hurting roots. Have to do sear-
ing before roots invade past nuggets.

b. I pre-cut  cup's bottom and re-taped bottom. Makes it real
simple to place it over another pot.

Good for you Nelson. Your are going to be the next fig king of Canada.

Thanks Paul you know that would of been allot easier for me if I had done that because cutting the bottoms with scissors once roots are out of the holes and all across the bottom is a real nightmare I was sweating buckets doing it.

Paul I also tried this method basically same as Gene posted earlier only I used the plastic cover from a Macdonalds cup wich fit perfectly on my clear cup. Dont ask Im thinking figs when I go to sleep, dream and wake up figs. Its pretty gotten pretty bad.

Paul what do you think?

That is a great idea.  This would be possible with any of the store-snags also (like Starbucks).  I may give this a shot on my UCD and Encanto cuttings.

Jason I also did this with a big Wendy's cup although I cant see the roots through the sides you can still see them at the bottom where the cover is.

Very good idea Gene/Nelson. Now I can even save on propane to make those cuts. Tried once using the scissors & thats it. I used a heated rod to do the cutting.
