This unknown champion Greek cutting was rooted and potted in 6 days. check out these photos

some Greek guy , cut a six inch branch from his tree and gave it to me, he told me if I grow this tree , I would throw all my collection away, he said that the tree is very hardy , light yellowish green when ripe, dark juicy red color inside ,closed eye with dripping honey, very large figs, short neck, big round flat bottom ,very sweet and extremely super tasty, about the leaf I forgot to ask
Anyway, let's make this story short ,he gave me a cutting which I rooted in days and when I planted in a cup, look what happened in one week!
I think this is ready to be potted already, I will put this straight into a 15 gallon pot.
look at the roots, they were coming on top of the soil , so I added the cap on top of the cup to cover the roots ,
but in my surprise the roots came up the next day.

Looks good George .
But don't be in a rush . I would put it in a 1 gallon pot and let it grow some more healthy mature roots .
Otherwise you may end up keeping it too wet in a 15 gallon pot .

John

Very aggressive grower. That's awesome.

Congratulations!  Hope it's twice as good as he says!

Be afraid.  Be very afraid.  If it roots that fast it may grow even faster; if you have it growing inside it may puncture your roof overnight.  Be afraid.  I guess this one should be named "Audrey II" <g>.

More seriously, that's amazing growth.  Let us know how it fares over the Summer.

Andrew

I agree with John, pot up slowly, when the weather warms up and constant sun comes out that will keep the pot warm enough if you wish to put it into a big container then, otherwise it may just sit around and possibly rot if the roots don't grow into it quickly enough.

That being said, I usually am putting 1-3-18 gallon and last year I put a 1 gallon into a 35 gallon tub but I didn't do that until July and it stayed warm, I will see how well it grows this year I know it sent the roots to near the bottom but it took a couple months of warmth to do it.

i think it might be a good idea if I planted in ground and cover it in the winter, any thoughts on that?

Take a back up just in case something happens but by all means plant it in ground, I have done it before with first year cuttings and they have survived.

cool tree .  please keep us updated . i am  especialy interested  in how it will do planted in the ground .

Nice. Please keep us posted.

I would wait until it's a few years old before planting it in the ground. It will have a better chance of surviving.  Also by then you'll have a well established back up plant or 2 in case it doesn't survive.  If you up pot it as soon as it's ready you'll still get optimal growth.

Wow!

Looks like a fighter. Good root system and wants to grow. Keep it potted for at least a season before putting it in ground to ensure that it grows. On the other hand if you do plant it in ground I would do an air layer this summer just in case it doesn't make through it's first winter.

Also, tell your friend he could probably make some $$ on ebay if he still has dormant cuttings to sell  :)

I don't think he will go for it, but if this grows fast i will share cuttings free to the forum.

I'm not hyping things up when i say that the neighborhood know this guy by his superior figs, the bad thing is he doesn't give cuttings to no one, he does not know the name of the fig, but all he told me is that this Fig is passed down by his great grandfather

Mario says the same about his Salce, which is from Italy.  I haven't seen any fruits yet.

That certainly is a fast grower, but I wouldn't be throwing any of my other figs away just yet. I've tasted figs that I was told were super only to discover mediocrity, hope you do better than me!
