This will make a grown man cry!

This is why I do every thing in my power to get rid of coons!!!!!!

This tree was 6 feet tall and the figs were not all ripe yet.

It just makes me cry every time I see this. This is the second tree broken exactly the same way. Time to get a big dog.

That's horrible!!

Time to pump some lead in them.

That's heart breaking.

Thats a shame I know how you feel, I had the same problem last year I tried traps I tried everything no luck until I did a little search on the internet and found out once and for all how to get rid of coons if your problem persists send me an PM and I will give you the info

Dennis: That is so sad. Thank you sharing.

Best,
Tam

I am so sorry to see that. Really, what do we do besides building a big fig cage? That is awful after years of babying the tree.

That is too bad........it pays to be proactive with coons.  Duke dog proof traps......only thing they will catch is a raccoon...and maybe a possum:)

Dave you have mail.

I feel your sorrow. The coon got me last night. My pots were small the tree were on the ground and all the fig that were any good are gone.  This year the peaches were first then the nectarine were next , now the figs. It is like you can't have any thing today.

Sorry Dennis War is War take no prisoners and keep the politicians out of it.  No negotiations.

ouch!

Electric Wired Fence..... plus put a sign so he can read that this can be fatal.

When you snuff out the culprit, make a fashion accessory out of his hide. Coonskin hats are in this year.

Very sad.  I have Newfoundlands and they love eating out.

sorry to see that, dennis. all that hard work. we have chickens and we use a " Have a Heart Trap" and put part of a can of cat food in the back of it. then you will have to take care of it once trapped. works great. dont see why it wouldnt work for you. i would think any animal would go for the food first over a fig.
PM sent.
good luck

good idea, tony.
dennis, if you are going to start selling some coonskin hats, i'm in for one! actually im down for a good cause. i'll take 7. the whole family will support you.

That is very bad!! no second thoughts..do it and now .
they tasted .. and will be back

Francisco

I've had to relocate some animals after trapping them in my yard here in NJ. They were getting into the neighbors garbage and my garden. I've found you have to keep doing it as preventive maintenance. Take them several miles away. Bill from Bill's Figs says he trapped 50 squirrels one year.

Harbor Freight sells several sizes at good prices but they may need some "tuning" to make them work right.

i would cry...
what about electric fence - http://gardengates.info/how-to-install-protect-backyard-garden-with-raccoon-fencing/

its a good investment maybe?

Dennis,

If you opt for  a dog, you don't necessarily need a big one. Do a little research, and you might find a 15# terrier breed that will do the trick for you. Terriers of all types were bred for vermin eradication.

Every year I have to box trap coons and haul them off.
I elevate the trap on my daughters' small plastic picnic table and bait it with bologna.
Since it's elevated I can't catch a dog or skunk, and coons love 'me some bologna!

Oh man, I feel your pain. Traps, dogs whatever, you can't tolerate that kind of damage

Any chance of wrapping the broken branches back together and treating it like a graft ?... had some tomato plants break and I just duct taped them back together real well and the tomatoes still ripened and the plant fused back together.

I was wondering about this, too.  Is it still fresh enough to 'graft' it back together?
