this years sals gene cutting

Okay this was the only surviving sals gene cutting from this April. Being new to rooting scion this was a major move in my world of figs. Pinching and taking off small fig embryos allowed this fruit to ripen. The plant has 6 branches with 3 figs and has put on 23 inches of growth.  it is amazing what you can get out of a six inch stick. Now to make sure it survives the winter it will be stored in a room being contructed in my garage called the FIG STORAGE ROOM.( I have about 50 potted fig trees to get into this room) Being insulated it features a remote temperature gauge allowing me to monitor the temp inside the room from the main house. The temp gauge also records the high and low and keeps it in memory.
Best $20.00 i ever spent at home depot.

Nice going!  You look a lot younger than I pictured.

That is a great looking tree and fig, it shows your dedication I hope you enjoy

Ed that is my son Christopher this is a hobby that the two of us are doing. Christopher is developmentally handicapped and has a brain tumor that could cause him to go blind he has a condition that is called neurfibromatosis more commonly called NF1 We are so thankful that he likes to garden and can retain the methods of growing plants. He took over my vegetable garden and is selling organic vegetables out front of the house. He has a plastic stand with tomatoes, cucumbers, egg plant, cherry tomatoes, string beans he wants to build a wooden stand next year and sell fig trees and vegetables. We are going to another seminar on winterizing fig trees and proper pruning this thursday evening.  He is even drying his own vegetable seeds to plant next year. We are going to build a hoop house this fall for next spring to get a jump on the growing year.

I wish you and Christopher the very best.  It's nice that you both can enjoy a hobby together.  He'll probably outshine you with his fig-ability.

Be sure to pass along any tidbits you might learn at the seminar.  I could use some advice on winterizing, as this will be my first figwinter.

inspirational.  i always love to hear stories about this.

i also obtained some Sal's (Gene) and Gino's Black cuttings, and these two, along with my "Unknown Voiture" cuttings have been the most prolific cuttings for me, out of dozens this year.

Sal(gene strain),is one tough fig,and it is it's own kind,is not hardy C like some say, because is definatelly much more round, and redish in color compared to HC.

Yes Herman I agree
