time for cuttings to root

Okay just got a few new cuttings and placed them into the bags with potting mix of sphagnum, per lite, lime (generic seed starter mix) How long should it take at 68-70 degrees until I should start to see roots. The bags are seal a meal bags approx 2-3 inches wide and 11 inches tall with just the tips of the cuttings exposed. the cuttings look healthy and one has started to leaf out. I have cut one corner off the bottom of each bag to allow for drainage of excess water.   I would like to see a good root structure before I pot them up correct??? I am in New Jersey and it is still cold here until May. Slight mold issue on a few due to being too deep into the bag I just cleaned them up and cut the bag down to allow more air circulation. If I am doing something wrong let me know and I am looking for advice as this is all new to me.

Northeastnewbie,
clooses thing i rooted in something that narrow is half a water bottle .
I would say somewhere between 3 to 4 weeks and you might see small roots depends . Some scion roots faster than others even the same type.

4 weeks to 4 months, and some seemingly never. Some would root on the kitchen table in the open air, and others just take their sweet time. Some form initials, even in the frig. Welcome to the Fun in figs.

I keep my cuttings at around 73 F.  Most of the varieties this I am rooting this year seem to take 20-24 days to reach a point where they can be cupped, with a few rooting as fast as 9 days and others rooting at  6 weeks.  With very few exceptions, once roots actually begin to form, they are ready to be cupped in just 2-4 days.  If I wait longer, I have a mess detaching them from the paper towel.

okay so most start roots in the zip lock bags with moist papertowel. Then when roots are visable place them into the cups with planting media. Then from cups with solid root structure to pots and outdoors. I think I have it..

Now What if I have cuttings that I placed directly into media should I take them out and try to get roots in the bag first and start over or just leave them alone ans see what happens???

Welcome Northeastnewbie

New Jersey is a big state what zone are you in.
I have some that i stuck in water bottles 3 weeks ago that have roots starting. The rooting times may be longer with may different figs.
I have some that have been in medium since christmas they have leaves but no roots.
How may different types of figs are you trying to root.

You mentioned "into the cups with planting media".
Make sure that the planting medium at this stage is very well-drianed type i.e. mostly Perlite (or other similar granular stuff) and less peat based material to avoid root root.

my planting media is seed starter mainly perlite and chopped spagnum.

That is more than good enough. Good luck.

this is one of my unknown variety of free cutting in homemade bag from seal a meal machine. Looking good awaiting root structure...
