Time to beg borrow and steal

Is there a members map on the forum?  That would really help with the steal part:)

I have recently been bitten by the fig bug and would like to add to my currently dismal selection.   Having very limited knowledge on varieties puts me at a disadvantage.  I have been trying to read up but with each fig having a dozen names it is like an episode of hoarders as I get very confused.  Not sure how much my trade list will appeal to anyone as i'm sure none of my current figs are wanted but do have a lot of other plants.   I grow many fruiting plants and I am one of the largest contributors of fresh fruit to our local food bank so know any of your plants or cuttings I receive will eventually go to help others.

I can't of course propagate the blueberries I have due to patent restrictions but in many varieties I can get liners from a friend who is a commercial blueberry grower to offer as trades.

Mail is fine, cuttings are great or small plants.  I'm in central Florida and for those local or semi local willing to drive and even bribe with vacuum sealed grouper fillets in addition to the plant material.

Anyway here is my very sad list of figs I currently have..don't laugh:)

You left out the partridge in a pear tree.

I may be able to trade I little something with you in a couple months.

Good luck.

BR,

welcome to F4F,  I recognize your plant listing from G.W. fruits and orchards. I might have a fig or 2 that would interest you, see my listing of plants I am growing in current post of "Fruit Rich Fig Poor". Where did you source your Dekopon, Kishu, and Gold Nugget in Florida?

My Goodness!  Welcome to the forum!  At this moment we are looking for land because the figs and wine grapes are taking over.  I could be interested once that happens, but until then I'm sure others can help you soon!

Suzi

Rafed,

I know.....I have a fruit problem:)   It is just very rewarding growing something that gives back.  Thanks for the future offer will stay in touch.  also if anyone has suggestions on varieties they feel are must haves for my area I would sure would welcome the suggestions.

Strudledog,

Cool. who are you on GW?  Hmm.....let me walk out in the yard and look at the tags.  The Dekopon was very difficult to find.  I know the Kishu's came from Floyds in Dade City (picked 1 up there myself and got a second from a different source).  Ok back:)  The Dekopon came from "Darryls family citrus nursery" and the Gold nugget came from "Philip Rucks citrus nursery".   You are in Atlanta right?  Some months back when I was looking for the Dekopon I saw a Craig's list ad selling them in Georgia somewhere.  I could not get that one of course due to the FL citrus quarantine but might help you.  The Dekopon is also known by more than one name so looking up all the names helps also.

Thanks for the welcome Suzi...still staying in CA though?

WillsC,

Best way is to wear all black, black face paint and night vision goggles. Make sure your clippers are painted as well, those shinny metal pieces will give you away.

I was just going to wear my ninja outfit:) swap out the sword for a shovel.

I guess I could add beauty bush to the trade list also as it is edible, makes a very nice jelly and duck eggs as well either for incubation or eating, bakers love them.  The ducks are white Muscovies though they are probably done laying now until it starts to warm up in February.  I have 25 or so (plus little ones), they are my bug patrol and get a lot of eggs.  Eggs ship fine btw.

I'm a native!  Not leaving!

BUT, you need to research apples, pears, and any stone fruit or nut, that will grow in sub tropical.  See?

I'm on your side!  I do have some nice figs... cuttings may come your way.. you just never know!

Suzi

strudeldog on GW as well
