Anyone do the pinching of tips NOW to force new branching at this time for main crop figs ? I have experimented  on a few
plants recently. Hope to hear what others do apart from taking off the brebas & focus on main crop.

Paully, I have pinched or tip pruned several of my trees that were started late spring to force them to branch out. It seems to be working fine as most are sending out buds and shoots. They were but whips before.

Paully best advice I've ever got was pinching the tips and I believe Herman taught me.

rob0520, I do the pinching when they are growing but have hardly done any when buds begin moving. What I have done in
past years are pruning. What I have done now is I did both. Much more easier now to pinch using a scissor to snip before leafing.

If you want branching,the very terminal growing tip is to be pinched on every branch,now.

So, while the tree is dormant or about to come out of dormancy if you pinch off the terminal bud it will branch out, if you do it later in the summer it will produce more figs? I read some of your past topics on pinching. I'm a little unsure about the actual pinching part. Do you need to pinch or pull off the bud or just crimp it to damage it?

Pinching, in this case, means you are removing the terminal bud.  Pinching describes the action, since usually it can be done with the thumb nail and another finger.

Paully my approach for my container trees.
In late winter before sap flow i prune certain branches that i want to branch more fruiting wood for the upcoming season. Some branches i leave alone so as not to get to much branching on interior of tree to block the sunlight .
Thats just me i like to keep interior open somewhat.
Some long side branches also i prune to keep tree in check.

Each of my trees i prune a little different cause of there habit and i adjust to to them.

I keep no breba on my trees , sometimes i miss a few and they make it perhaps  1 or 2 . For what i do by waking them up early most breba in past would just not make it here so for me only its a waste of tree's energy to keep them.

During season i always prune the bud tips of many branches that have regrown to get the ripe fruit.

Afterwards at the point of prune i get more shoots, i keep pruning those off to get ripe fruit . I may keep 1 here and there on tree and let grow to certain length then snip end but it depends on how the branch looks to me.

This is only what i do and not meant as any kind of guide.

Yes Paully,you pinch for branching out now,and you pinch again after,5 or 6 leaves later to promote larger fruits and getting them to grow larger,and ripe sooner.
Also to limit the number of fruits in case the tree produce too many,more than it can possibly mature.
In the third scenario,you might even pinch some fruits ,if needed.

Herman, when you are pinching after the 5th or 6th leave to get better figs. What are you pinching off? Do you remove any branch tips, leaves or figs?

I only pinch the little growing tip of the end after the sixth leaf,to stop growth.
Of course if I do the pinching later than I suppose to and the branch was growing out and now has 10 leaves,of course in this case some leaves and young wood will be taken out to leave only 6 leaves,on.
