To airlayer or not

I have some newer trees with branches now (1-2 yrs).   If I airlayer most of the branches or take cuttings of the branches, how does that affect growth next year.   Basically, if I end up with one straight up trunk with no branches.  about how much fig production will it affect?  This year, trees grew several feet and branched nicely. I'm wondering maybe they will just resprout them next year.  Thinking of doing this of Strawberry Verte, Panache, and Corky's Honey Delight.

Maybe just airlayer the branches halfway.  That way, I'll still have some branches and new trees to boot.  Any advice?

I would think since these are common fig types that the fruit would be on the new growth. By that pruning this years growth would only be a concern if they were caprifig (male).

Personally would only take cuttings from the region I would prune and not create a single long "stick".

Figs are on new growth. so shouldn't be an issue. If it already branched and you want to keep it branched, leave 1 or 2 nodes of each branch, where it can start growing in the spring.
