To stem, or not to stem, Tis the question.

My newest, bestest friend just sent me two different cuttings for which I am so grateful,  The cuttings arrived with the leaf stems attached but the leaves were snipped/pinched off.  I have been snipping/pinching the whole leaf, stem and all, off the cutting.  So should I leave the leaf stems on, to root, or take them off?

By the way, not all witches from the west are wicked, at least where figs are concerned, LOL

I cut the petioles at about 1" from the cutting. I figure it will leave a smaller wound than tearing it off. It falls off with a clean scar after about a week. Good luck!

I do what Ruben does.  Note: lead stems don't necessarily root.

I've had leaf stems mold and kill the sutting.  I take the whole leaf stem off.

Leaf stems should be removed. They are sources for rot and fungus to start. If you leave the cuttings in a bag, or in the frig for a few days, they should drop off on their own. If you cut them off or rip tem off, you need to let the would callus, or it lets mold and rot start really quickly.

I guess I should have mentioned that you should take out the petioles after they are shed.

THX TO ALL
