To Up-Pot or to Not Up-Pot

Greetings,
I have a JH Adriatic that really needs to be up-potted but is has a few figs still that are in the process of becoming ripe, if I up-pot will I loss these figs and it this really the wrong time of year? I would love some advice on this.

You shouldn't have any problems with up-potting now. I've up-potted all summer long and still doing so.
I haven't lost any figs due to up-potting.

I just up-potted 20 1 gallon's to 3's today and need to do about 20 more so if you fail so do I :)

I have many #5g that I need to up pot to #20 g and I'm thinking of doing it in the fall after all of the leaves have dropped or early winter when they are all snug and toasty in the garage for their winter nap.

Just up potted 3 plants today after work. You shouldn't lose any figs if you up pot. At least, I never did.

Thanks guys, this up potting turns into a workout!!! Doesn't help that I keep my figs on my deck and my potting supplies under my deck....

Getting a workout is always good. Just finished mine. LOL

Gloria ,we have about 2 months left before the first hard frost just do like I did and don't add fertilizer. 3 parts peat, 1 part sand, 1 part perlite and a little lime. in spring you can fertilize I think we both will be fine as long as the nitrogen level is low in the new soil.

Is that your normal potting mix, or just to avoid nitrogen?

I should have mentioned that my soil doesn't have any fertilizer in it. I guess if you were using Miracle Gro soil that has fertilizer in it. It might not be a good idea this late in the season.

I'll also add that last year I up-potted a Gino Black with figs, from a 3 gallon to 5 gallon and I still got to eat all 6 figs.  :)

Hi,
You can still pot up and the tree will benefit from it . I wouldn't wait to do it... Unless your current pot is already a big one and you fear to toss the tree while manipulating the pot ...
If so, just be extra careful :) .
By the way, I fertilized some fig trees last week - because I planted them in the ground 2 or 3 weeks ago.
But as they say, your trees, your decisions, your risks ! The same for me , my trees, my...
