Today’s LA Times….. FIGS

Just perusing today’s LA Times and could not help but notice this wonderful article (plus video online) about figs.   Everything from consumer guide to 12 new recipes!    After reading, I have no doubt the author (LA Times Food Editor, Russ Parsons) is one of us.  Or, at surely should be!   Think I will email him a link to our Figs 4 Fun Forum.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy and find a new fig recipe.

Hi Igor,

Thanks for posting the recipes link, I did have a second thought concerning folks noticing that link on side of page.

Thanks for sharing the article. I always wonder how interesting it would be if someone would do a documentary on the history of figs? I would enjoy it and I think other people would come to know our passion for them. It would be fun to see some of the huge collections out there.

Great article!  Thanks for posting it.  I disagree on Kadota.  So far my fav fresh fig!  Unfortunately the birds love it too.  I followed the dude on twitter, so I'll be getting all kinds of food goodies in my feed.  His recipes missed that grilling of the figs, which is also such a great way to serve them.  Ooops.  Just checked.  He has a grilled fig salad.  Yummm!

Thanks for the links. Forwarded to my friends that I am convincing need to grow figs as well!

Thanks for sharing

Update……. I emailed the author (Russ), thanking him for the well done fig feature, also invited him to visit out Figs 4 Fun Forum.   He emailed back this morning, expressing appreciation for the F4F referral and good timing as he was “going to need advice this fall on pruning after the harvest”.    If Russ should inquire, I have no doubt a few of the experts here would be happy to share some handy advice or tips.    Maybe get a positive plug in for F4F in the process.

A second thought.... maybe we could send him back the best link or example of pruning advice on file?  Oh, where to begin?    Before sorting through, anyone have any overall good guides that would serve the purpose?

Russ is a nice guy.  I roasted some chestnuts for him in my orchard several years back.  I may invite him back for a visit in a year or two when my new fig orchard is further along.
