Hunt, Morley and Foxcroft were equal in terms of flavor and sweetness but Hunt had the slight edge because of its firmness and denseness without having to be dead ripe. FMD Celeste is good but not in the same class. Black Bethlehem and Hardy Chicago were different and undoubtedly better. Hardy Chicago was the favorite and best of this group.

Albuquerque White #2 and Bealle were picked too early and need more time to ripen. Bealle is producing several almost tennis ball size figs but it has a medium, open and unsealed eye. It has not split during light rain but it may need a new home.

There are some nice looking figs you posted thanks.

Hard to look at since I ain't got none... but thank you for the pics. They are very informative. :)

I think I need to go pick a ripe peach.

Or start a chapter of the SPCAF - Society for the Prevention of Cruelty About Figs. ;)

Excellent looking selection. Can you pick the best tasting from among them JD?

BLB,
Hardy Chicago (first paragraph, last sentence)

Well, since only have one of these varieties is growing in my yard, I'm pleased to hear that I chose the best of the bunch (HC).

Cool thanks!

VdB was Wow! and clearly the pick of the litter.
Hardy Chicago was its good old self.
Black Bethlehem was consistent.
Foxcroft was dead ripe and really good.
LSU Purple needs to be dead ripe (for this two year old tree) to be memorable.
Bealle was bland and still recovering from the tropical storm water from Betty.

JD... Excellent photos and even better reference and info for us "beginners". Thanks!

JD,

Thanks for the reports! I think you've convinced me I need a Hardy Chicago. That sounds so strange me living in Florida.
