Heh, I have to be content with sharing Cornus kousa "Summer Stars" with a fat tree rat or two. Birds getting at most of the early PN figs, protecting a couple right now. The cropping season looks like it will be more staggered this year instead of the normal two week ripening period. The dogwood fruit is insanely delicious for something acidless. It's really too bad they are so much trouble to eat (and slightly toxic like all dogwood fruits are). If I had land, I would plant a grove of these, and make jam with raspberries blended in. Would be killa.
The best thing about in-ground plants you've planted long ago...they require absolutely minimal care (and lots of fighting critters). I just wish there was an Internet back then, or that I took boutique figs more seriously when we were trying out fruit plants (and that pawpaw culture was more developed than it was).
We really badly need fig taste test festivals for areas outside of Cali and the yearly Wolfskill get together. Also a more structured way to talk about various varieties. The mangos and avocados are discussed with more rigor in the two big threads in Tropical Fruits Forum, for instance.
Yeah, I know, OT rambling, so I'll stop here.
