Despite the cooler weather, I'm starting to see lots more figs swelling up. Today I got to compare these 5 varieties. They were all very good. Excel was still in last place. Gino was the one that stood out the most tonight.
Very nice Frank, wich one was your favorite?
Nelson,Gino was the best tonight. Abebereira was 2nd, with a unique flavor that was very enjoyable.
Looks good. I've never had a fig that's yellow on the inside
Good job Frank, they all look delicious!
Rich,I highly recommend Atreano. Such a great fig. The flesh is amber with hints of pink. Honey flavored and very sweet. You must let it ripen fully though. A day early and you won't get the flavors.
Figs look great! I am glad that you recommend Gino and Atreano, how was Excel? the rest I do not have. Congrats Frank, nice plateful.
Wayne,Excel has a creamy feel to it. Somewhat sweet with a touch of honey flavor. It's a good tasting fig, but doesn't rank high on my overall list. Atreano has a more concentrated honey flavor and a bit sweeter.
Thanks Frank.
Plate of heaven! What a striking flesh color on the atreano.
Nice plate of figs Frank. On a side note. I have a friend that I gave one of my small extra starts of your Carini last spring. He lived in an apartment at the time which only had sun in the spring-time on the little deck. So he used a 1000 watt HPS grow light to grow his little tree and kept it growing all year. He ended up moving away for work and renting a house with a sunny yard that he could now set the potted tree out in real sun. He sent me a text with a picture of it this spring and it seemed to be about as big as mine is now(with half the leaves burned off by the sun). I was texting him the other day and he was so thankful. He said that he has gotten about 100 figs off of it and a few have been nearly as large as a baseball. I haven't seen any of them or the tree, but I did ask him to send a picture.

Re: Atreano... A day early and it taste like old cucumber. Yellow with pink flecks:
Calvin,That's amazing! I'm glad to hear how productive it's been.James,You're absolutely right. I had picked one too soon with the same cucumber taste. Timing is everything.
