ton of turtles on the road of late.

must have noticed at least 5 turtles in last 3 days on the high way. not sure what's going on, but they are all crossing the road for whatever reason. and they stop in the middle of the road and doesn't move. it's getting harder to avoid them. haven't hit on yet. the traffic is too fast to get out of the car to move them. maybe it's this darn weather that's making them go crazy.

The mockingbirds told the turtles they could have any of your figs that get knocked to the ground.

Why on earth didn't you title this thread "why did the turtle cross the road"

to get to the figs on the other side?

To get to the shell station?

Practicing for a Geico commercial ?

Lots of tasty soup to be had when there's lots of turtles.

it so easy, turtles can do it.

Maybe they are looking for those cicadas.  Hey, whatever happened to the cicada swarm.   Pictures please of turtle or cicada swarm.

cicadas were picked off by the darn birds which were waiting for the.figs which are late due to darn weather.

To bad they aren't those chocolate turtles, although they would melt sitting on that hot road.

i heard turtles are good. my grand father used to keep a turtle in his living room. it was in one of those huge fish tank. all the kids would run around catching flies all day long to feed it. one day we asked what he was going to do with it. he said "well.. i'm going to eat it.". i think he was kidding us. i'm sure he meant he was going to feed his peacock with it.

I once stopped and grabbed a turtle that was on the street. The ingrate proceeded to hiss at me and tried to bite me! I'd try to wait til it was later with less traffic and rescue those turtles.

Pete, I do think it's the heat and constant rain showers that get them moving. Hope they don't get crushed. I'm a turtle fan. I adopted 3 water turtles from friends when they grew too large for them. I keep them in a large water tub. I have a rescued box turtle who's shell got crushed when a friend accidentally road over it with a garden gator. And I have 5 tortoises that love to eat my weeds and any other garden surplus that I may have.

hey barry. i like them well enough.. but i try not to have any animals big enough that i'll miss them once they are gone. i'm already worried about my puppies.. that's why i wanted poison dart frogs... had everything set up and trade fell through and never got the frogs..

The turtle man is a bit nuts, but ya gotta admire his abilities to go into a pond and catch those big snappers. Thanks for posting that Rafed.

My friend once caught a big snapper. I put a pencil by its mouth and it bit thru the pencil, 1/2 from my fingers.  It could've easily severed my fingers! They have tremendous bite force.

that's what i heard. they can take your finger clean off. looks like nasty version of bird beak..

 It is mating time !!
Three types of "turtles".  Water.. the Red-eared Sliders and the Snapping Turtles. Laying eggs or looking for girls.
Land... The Eastern Box tortoise. Black with yellow markings on shell. Endangered and protected. Same reasons. Rarer, save if possible.
