Too early?

I incovered a couple unknown figs today one was covered with a pile of leaves and one branch has rooted it's self. Is it too early to cut it off and plant it some where else? This tree has never been winterized or trimmed.

You have to make sure there is enough root mass to support the branch without nutrients from the mother tree. If you can answer yes then go for it. For me, I would wait til the fall when dormant, than take it off and replant. Less stress plus an additional 6 months of root growth.

I would set it up to airlayer it ASAP before the air affects the roots and dries them out.

See Air-layering. You are half way there, now give it as chance to develop more root mass.

Thank you guys for the input
