At this point in the season, would it be better to wait and prune than start an air layer?

From what I see, your summer is over?!  You generally need 8-10 weeks of good warm weather, in my book.

Yeah, we seem to have skipped right over summer and into autumn. I can't get a ripe tomato to save my life. Crazy weather!
