too much fun!

I am too impatient to wait for roots in this special variety (VdB). So, I took a tiny piece of the top and grafted in another one of my many unknowns that I got a month ago, which had decent roots and a good starting (lots of latex when I cut it).

Everyone cross your fingers.  As you can see, the cutting is still very good, so if my fun experiment fail, I have the cutting still.

How about that?

You are so ambitious and clever!  What a great way to achieve rooted cuttings of your desired variety!  Good luck with your grafts!  Thanks for the illustrations!  What kind of tape did you use?  It doesn't look like the grafting tape I've got.

Suzi

Suzi, regular rubber bend...these tips are very small, some smaller than a pencil tip size, so rubber band is small enough to secure it tight, the trick is to secure the new tip to the base cutting- or it slides right out. I tried a few nd settled with knotting- I tried a few planting the roots on the new cutting - I don't think those will survive as the joint graft is under the soil... I did a few, where I pulled roots from my big tree and grafted to some  either at the bottom or in the half way down the new cutting.  Potted 2 and 2 with grafted roots and am nursing 2 in a box, attached to long grafted roots in moss- this will allow me to see if the big roots survived the transplant and if attaches, while the cutting continue its process of rooting.    If this works, I will have my tree's cuttings rooting read for new cuttings!  Cross my fingers. I will update.

Sunday fun!

Nice illustrative tutorial, Grasa!  Keep us posted on how they come out!

more fun...

I did  a few experiments with root grafting - some I put in cups, since the cuttings were ready, but these I am nursing them in moss chamber to monitor this graft's progress... ( will have to inspect the cup ones upon transplanting)... shall report my results - from now, just having fun!

Are you having fun as I am?
